I just got a new phone (Sony Xperia 1 VI) and I'd like to replace the standard google apps with some open source alternatives. I already tried a bunch in the past, but not all of them feel quite right compared to the google apps. Lineage OS 21 has a few apps I'd like to try, especially the dialer and keyboard app. Do any of you know where I can get download them to install on any android phone?

Thanks!

Fossify might be a good place to start with...

I've tried those before, but I don't like most of those apps to be honest. The gallery is pretty good and the calendar is okay, but the rest doesn't work quite right for me

https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/lineageos/

This is the only place I've seen them. Not all will be compatible with non-lineageos android but I've had success with some.

Awesome, all standard apps seem to work fine (Calendar, Contacts Calculator, etc.) Not all of them look amazing yet but they'll do the job I think!

I can't help with installing lineage os apps but I can suggest unexpected keyboard. I tried a lot of foss keyboards and this was the best in what I tried. It has a lot of customisation You can basically change anything. I even added my own keyboard layout to it.

Does it support multilingual typing?

it has different layout but I don't know if you can quickly switch between layouts

Heliboard is the best opensource keyboard I have used. For dialer, I use fossify Dialer

I think I've tried heliboard before, but that doesn't support multilingual typing, right?

It is from the developer(s) that made Libretube.

You can just copy the apk directly from the phone.

To make it easy, I use APK Export (because I'm lazy... I could just copy the apk with any file browser).

Turns out APK Export is no longer available on the Play Store.

Try APK Extractor instead.

I also use 3C Toolbox to Backup apps to a local folder. It just copies the APK.

https://download.lineageos.org/devices/

I don't see the device in the supported device list

[-] EddoWagt@feddit.nl 2 points 4 months ago

Indeed, the devices has just been released so that is expected. I'm looking for a way to install the default LOS apps on the stock firmware

[-] thequantumcog@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

You can also try LineageOS GSI for the time being.

[-] EddoWagt@feddit.nl 2 points 4 months ago

I think it's fine for now as long as I can replace all the google apps

You'll probably want to get started building lineage OS from source, including the packages, or at least looking at the documentation

Thanks, I'll have to look into that. Only the calendar app seems to have a release, and that one has not yet been updated properly for the material you theming
