Yes, crackers are not a protected class here.

I couldn't care less if you call a white person a cracker. It rolls off a white person like any other insult because unlike actual racism it has none of the weight and history of systemic oppression and cultural destruction behind it.

No white person has ever felt harmed by the word cracker. Which is precisely why it is not racist. The only "harm" they see in the word is using it to tut tut at POC, which is itself racist.

cringe origin storyi'm not gonna lie i used to get mad when i got called a cracker as a little kid because i'm mixed race but really light skinned. i felt like i was having my admittedly small (1/4) black heritage denied and lumped in with the WASPy oppressors even though the euro side of my family was immigrants from potato land anyway. now idgaf but woo wee that shit used to get me shaking when i was like 10 at the bus stop

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I feel like that's sort of fair in a way? It's like having your actual heritage denied.

[–] Mindfury@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

yeah, i reckon this is the only time you can be offended by being called a cracker - because you're not one and you're having your actual identity denied

We're all for offending the Saltine-Americans, the Britscuits, Gernaans and the Gaulic Breads

If you can help come up with a bread-based insult for Aussies, I will welcome it

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I thought calling out cracker was mandatory here

[–] Transgenderista@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

idk I’m new. very encouraging if so

[–] LeninsBeard@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

You can't say that here because the Maoist Standard Dictionary clearly says it's spelled KKKraKKKer

[–] WoofWoof91@hexbear.net 0 points 2 years ago (3 children)

lmao, big surprise the site with the racism slider thinks cracker is a slur

[–] NoGodsNoMasters@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

There was a whole thing over there yesterday and this morning about an account whose name was literally the n-word hard r. This wasn't someone circumventing a filter or anything, just straight up the word.

So yeah apparently cracker is worse than the n word.

the "show content from hate groups" setting

[–] silent_water@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

they probably mean leftists. leftists are the real racists.

[–] autismdragon@hexbear.net 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

My friend who uses Bluesky says the "racism slider" is actually an opt in for seeing news about hate groups and not because hate groups are allowed on the site. Apparently. Idk.

[–] Transgenderista@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

oh that makes more sense i guess

[–] macabrett@hexbear.net 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

no-copyright

I refuse to sign up for corporate social media unless they let me say cracker

this is an entirely valid indicator for whether a website has a competent trust & safety team tbh
