And so it begins. Soon this will be real time reporting.

[-] seathru@lemmy.sdf.org 27 points 4 months ago

Cars are the new cell phones. Makes me glad I drive the equivalent of a Nokia 3210.

[-] schizoidman@lemmy.ml 6 points 4 months ago

But do you use the equivalent of a Nokia 3210 phone?

[-] seathru@lemmy.sdf.org 10 points 4 months ago

I wish such a unicorn existed. So I just leave that thang at home when I'm doing hood rat stuff.

[-] haui_lemmy@lemmy.giftedmc.com 6 points 4 months ago

Put linux on it or go for open hardware right away. :)

ohhhhh I love me some minitrucks.

Got any pics by chance?

I wish there was a bigger car community here in lemmy

[-] seathru@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 4 months ago

Yeah, here you go. Nothing special, but unmolested ones are getting hard to find. I do hope more of the car community finds it's way here.

[-] Facebones@reddthat.com 3 points 4 months ago

I'm super not a car guy but the country boy in me misses basic ass pickup trucks. My dad had an old ranger and that thing certainly held stuff in the bed well without requiring a staircase. 🤣

[-] HATEFISH@midwest.social 1 points 4 months ago

King pick. 740s and 940s also welcome. Rwd turbo bricks ❤️

[-] KISSmyOSFeddit@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

The addition of the word turbo implies the existence of a car that is even slower than a Volvo brick.
Up till now, no evidence of such a car has been found.

[-] xilona@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 months ago

Nokia 1610 here 😀

Hardbody Nissan. It's kind of a homoerotic name but the 90's were a different time.

[-] extremeboredom@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Just wait till we can hook our neuralink implants into the system! Authoritarians and jackbooted thugs are absolutely SALIVATING at the prospect of unbridled access to our every thought. Coming soon! 😃👍

First thing first: fuck reckless and dangerous driving.

But yikes, once the authorities take one step in, they will never take a step back.

Also it's Singapore, a city that make it extremely expensive to own a car, essentially lock the option out for anyone who can't pay sgd100k± for the certificate. And car is also extremely expensive to buy.

But despite that, one doesn't need to own a car to travel around Singapore, it's a very walkable city despite the weather.

[-] Minarble@aussie.zone 1 points 4 months ago

They also have great public transport. The MRT is excellent.

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 0 points 4 months ago

Singapore is influenced by China and we all know how bad the Chinese police are.

[-] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 3 points 4 months ago

More like influenced by British police, since it's an ex colony.

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 months ago

Not as much these days. It seems like a increasing number of Singaporeans are favoring China.

[-] Reddfugee42@lemmy.world 24 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

What does OP do with all the time they save by not writing inga

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 months ago

It lease it isn't 'cause. That annoys me to no end.

[-] NGC2346@sh.itjust.works 17 points 4 months ago

This title made my brain spin on itself

[-] Gsus4@mander.xyz 7 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

me too

This is what you get when you mess with the S'pore police.

[-] kworpy@lemm.ee 15 points 4 months ago

Cars are spyware with wheels.

[-] Facebones@reddthat.com 12 points 4 months ago

I'm going to laugh if all this connectedness is the thing that makes people start supporting public transit and biking again lmao.

"Well who wants to fucking drive anymore if you actually get in trouble for breaking the law?!"

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 9 points 4 months ago

The good news is that the Singapore, Korean and Chinese police are way more invasive and aggressive than police in the US. The bad news is that US law enforcement often copies them.

[-] emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 months ago

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think cars and heavy vehicles should report overspeeding and other reckless behaviour to the traffic police.

[-] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 11 points 4 months ago

I agree that does sound safe but I can't trust the cops with a record of everywhere I've been or some kind of tracking system.

#alwaysbecriming

[-] emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works 0 points 4 months ago

I think a good compromise would be the car only reporting you if you cross the speed limit. But then, you'd have to take the manufacturer's word for it.

[-] vinceman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 months ago

Sweet, I can still text as much as I want that way. Because speeding is the only issue, right?

[-] emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 months ago

Inb4 cars are required to jam phone signal when in use.

[-] Aria@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 4 months ago

You're taking the manufacturer's word for it right now. They already have all the required components built in, GPS, antenna and computer.

[-] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 1 points 4 months ago

I will not take any word for it. Nobody is going to want to a drive snitch car, let's be real.

[-] interdimensionalmeme@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 months ago

Well they do are all bad. I'm not sure what anyone expects, it's like living with a murderer. They'll never respect you and every breath of oxygen they take is an insult to your life.
