Not so much a post, but more of a request. Is there a proper archive somewhere of 90s tiled wallpapers for older distros? Think like, old CDE style stuff.

I've yet to find any indication there is a proper archive.

So I've started a project of hunting down isos for mid-90s releases of popular distros. I'm then scouring their contents, finding RPMs that have wallpapers, and extracting them.

If there's any interest, I will dump them and share.

Not exactly an archive, but there are a ton included in NsCDE https://github.com/NsCDE/NsCDE/tree/master/data/backdrops

There are some xpm/xbm tiles included in the current (2.5.2) CDE source code on https://sourceforge.net/projects/cdesktopenv/. The NsCDE list is nice!
