McLennan County Justice of the Peace Dianne Hensley filed a lawsuit after a state agency warned her about refusing to marry gay couples. She hopes a recent U.S. Supreme Court case about religious freedom helps her cause.

A judge isn't a privately owned business. If the judge really thinks it's the same thing, they need to be disbarred

I'm always on the side of a clergy who doesn't want to perform a marriage for any reason, but this isn't that. This person is a public office and their personal opinions don't enter into it, full stop.

I'm with you. This judge should be impeached and have their law credentials revoked. They're failing to perform the duties of their office, they get fired.

Unfortunately, there's no requirement for credentials to be a judge. It's typically lawyers but they don't have to be.

That's a fair point. Perhaps disbarment would be purely punitive, if they in fact have law credentials, but at least they should be impeached. This is absolutely cause for removal from the bench.

Disbarred and maybe get all their previous rulings looked at. maybe retried.

it's texas, though. Chances are they're gonna give that guy a medal. or something.

btw, not that it's surprising, but the entire SCOTUS decision was founded on a fucking lie. No one sued that woman and it's pretty common knowledge if you look just slightly. So of course this fucker is hoping it will "help them fight". Fuck these homophobic assholes

She must not be a particularly good judge, because that ruling has next to no relevance at all.

[-] stopthatgirl7@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago

Or she knows it creates precedent and she can sue to try to expand the scope of the ruling.

And with the attacks on civil rights, you know Brown is also on their list, too.
