Why does anyone pay a subscription for a door bell camera?

[-] sexy_peach@feddit.de 8 points 9 months ago

On the face of it watching whos rang the bell from anywhere on your phone is pretty cool.

The company, how they process your video feeds and who they share it with though?? shudder

[-] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Why not just stream video directly from the camera? You don't need a subscription for that.

Not everybody has the time and ability to set up their own infrastructure for that.

Well but it's how they choose to do business. I don't think it's a good model but for sure it seems to make them money...

[-] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Yeah, I understand why they sell it. I just don't understand why anyone would buy it.

A fool and his money are easily parted.

Oh I'm sure the upper end neighborhoods that have these won't mind the increase....

Not really, having it substantially lowers my home owners insurance. Plus it's cheaper than the bullshit ADT and less invasive.
