After some research I've narrowed down my options into these two controllers.

Use-case:

  • Mostly PC gaming (It Takes Two, PS2 Emulation, etc.), Android Gaming (probably Emulation as well).
  • Also my little brother has a Switch and it would be awesome to have another controller for that as well.

Why these two?

  • They are available locally (Philippines) and within the budget.
  • Both have Hall Effect Joysticks
  • Both have good reviews and hopefully have good build quality

Why am I leaning towards 8bitdo Ultimate?

  • Mostly because I think they are the same but 8bitdo has the back buttons.

Give me Reasons Why I Should Get the Gulikit KingKong 2 over the 8bitdo Ultimate

I am a slut for 8bitdo pads. I got the lean-colored Pro controller and my gray one is still chuggin after like 3 years of moderate use.

I bought a Mayflash Magic stick so I could connect whichever controller (wired or wireless) to any console.

I didn't like the fact that for the "pc-setting" in the 8bitdo you have to use the dongle, and can't use bluetooth.
also the kingkong2 pro has exchangeable abxy buttons, so you can change them to the correct layout for the thing you're currently playing on (which may be extremely useful with the little brother, depending on his age)

I got the 8bitdo pro 2 and it's able to do custom settings over USB ^^ How often do you want to change the profiles?

I would hate to use Bluetooth, would prefer a dongle. The latency of Bluetooth is awful.

Sorry for not sticking to your to options. But. If your brother have a Switch, why not considering a Switch Pro Controller? Works great on PC, on Steam Deck, and of course Switch. I'm loving mine for PC gaming.

The 8bitdo also works with the Switch (I use it all the time), plus... It has back buttons!

From my experience, the 8bitdo Ultimate has been great. (KingKong 2 was not available when I purchased it)

I have it connected with the dongle to my PC (or Steam Deck depending) and when I want to play on PC I switch the button on the back to use the dongle. And when I want to play on the Switch, I change the toggle on the back again, and it stays paired to the Switch.

I don’t know enough about how KK2 pairs. Maybe it can do this too, not sure. I like that the charging stand allows you to keep the dongle in there and it connects to the pc through the charger.

And also, previous 8bitdo controllers have lasted me a long time.

Let us know what makes you pick one over the other. And happy gaming.

Still leaning towards 8bitdo especially because someone pointed out that it has that awesome charging dock.

Unless any glaring issues about 8bitdo Ultimate is revealed, I think it's a done deal.
