The Aqara FP2 is discounted for Prime Day in the UK too, £70.54 down from £82.99.

They are still a lot cheaper from sites like AliExpress however, around £40-£45 if you don’t mind waiting a bit longer for shipping.

Hopefully mmWave sensors will start falling in price soon, the tech is impressive but the cost is currently quite prohibitive compared to IR sensors, especially if you have a lot of rooms.

I prefer to use services as keepa or camelcamelcamel to track price drop (besides prima days & co)

If you configure the device via the app, does the FP2 require an active internet connection? I don’t mean wifi connection. I basically want to know if I could block internet access for this device.

UPDATE 24.04.2023: Aqara has released a new firmware update 1.1.6_0005.0025 which enables local control. The FP2 can now be used without an internet connection, hub, or app dependence in Home Assistant after it’s initial setup.

So, yes, after the initial setup (you may need an internet connection to download and install the newer firmware) no internet connection is needed at all.
