Anyone that uses this that can comment on it? I have an m1 Mac and I’ve been wondering about switching to this, and if it feels fully fleshed out
Linux
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Been using for about a year now, and I love it. Only real complaint is that battery life is not as good.
have an M1 MBA, got tired of macos trying to trick me into installing the AI frosted glass edition number of the year variant. Decided I'd rather risk bricking my mac than end up with a device that locks me into AI.
It works really well. I think I booted back into macos once to just grab my files to a usb and move them over to the new install (you can't remove it, you just get a separate partition for asahi and it has the ability to autoboot to asahi).
I have faced 2 issues in the entire time, and one of them I half had with macos.

usb c to display out is just not here. like at all. on macos, I could get it to work, but sometimes I needed to replug in a cable, or restart the monitor, and then it was stable, but it really took away the whole seemless 1 cable to have a docked setup simplicity I hoped for.

I had a failed install once. Honestly might not even be related to Asahi. I don't know how the deeper kernel stuff works. Was getting total black screen on boot. no signs of life but my backlit keyboard after the Uboot logo and stuff. But after being scared it got bricked, I slept on it, looked up how to get a terminal up, tried it. It worked. I had to translate the key combo and hold down the fn key to properly hit F2 but it worked. I updated from the terminal, it did a total reupdate, reboot, and bang, worked like a charm after that.
I have not upgraded to asahi 45 yet. kinda haven't wanted to hear my mac make its reboot sound twice like I have to for every update, but I have trust it'll work. No urgency though since no usb c display out, which is my only real desire in an update (aside from reg security patches)

i like how AI is getting people to consider alternatives that they might not have considered before otherwise. lol
Still no USB-C display out? I thought they announced that for testing back in January?
It's available on the experimental, out-of-tree branch fairydust
I have a m1pro, and it's pretty solid with kde. hdmi out does work through the port, but display port alt (over usbc) doesn't yet. 120hz refresh is working though, and it's just nice to have the macbook build quality with a good os.
Have they fixed the weird trackpad UX yet? There’s something about it that just feel off and I can’t figure out what.
I haven't noticed any oddity, but I generally dont use the track pad.
Been using it on an M2 Pro for more than a year now and it works great, love it! Always looking forward to new updates, contrary to macos updates where i was dreading them haha
Same here! I actually don't touch the mac part, which I need occasionally for one piece of software (QLab). I call it the Dark Side, and it always complain about available updates indeed.
On the Bright Side I've got it all, even some "evil" ones like Teamviewer which I need to manage remote windows machines at work. It runs smooth, boots quick, and Gnome gestures on the excellent trackpad are a delight. Excellent screen, good batteries (not as long lasting alas but still a Day's Work' good).
There was a few missing features last I checked but other than that the UX is a lot better than macOS IMO
