Hmm. I don’t think I’ve ever had a cat named for a food….

Elliott, Gizmo, Tiny Dinosaur, Ellie, Fluffy….

Wait, no. Ellie’s (RIP) full name was Elmira Sunday Biscotti. Idk if that counts, her full name was only used when we were mad at her. Which was rare, because she was a very good kitty.

I mean, we know cats named Oreo, Biscuit, and Butter.

My Kimchi, her whole name is Kim Chiara Oscura because her coat is light in darkness.

Spätzle would be a great name for a cat, especially if it's owner is a non german poc

My cats: Tom Yum (spicy sour soup), Pad Thai (spicy noodles), Som Tum (spicy papaya salad), Kai Tun (a kind of egg custard), Luna, Lana, and Lily who doesn't like the inside world. Tis a bad place.

Food names are great.

I have had a lot of pets, mostly dogs, a few cats after I got married, a couple of horses and sheep, and one fox. What I have learned about naming your pet is if you just watch and listen, your friend will tell you their name. It has never failed me or my pet.

Now sometimes you might get a name you didn't expect, like Cash out the Window, call name cash. Or Tater, because potato head is too hard to say in the field. Shitty Kitty is obvious, he does NOT travel well to the Vet. Or Fuckin' Cat, Grandma is still upset over that name. But it's the only one he ever answered to.

So never be in a hurry to name your companion, they will tell you what it is if you only listen to them.

My mother named our old cat Cacerolo, which means "cooking pot" in Spanish.

I've known many a cat named after "western" (or whatever) food. Friend of mine has one named Burger right now. There's one on c/cats named Broccoli Cheddar.

Personally I use human names.

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 5 points 19 hours ago

I use angel names, my black cat is Lucifer Morningstar

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago

I would support this. Some cats do indeed look like a mixed salad.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago

Those are pretty good cat names.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 day ago

Oh my babies are Meatloaf, Milk, and Mashed Potatoes. One of them is gay and the other two are just flexible.

Oh, wait, cats?

Casserole (Cass for short) is unironically a good cat name.

One of my cats was named Wasabi by the shelter. Her name is Noodles, so I'm not sure if I helped or not.

[–] NickwithaC@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Lateral step.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

I just named my orange bastard "Dezső", a Hungarian human name that is now rare, and roughly equivalent of "Desmond".

God, he's so unaware that his nails hurt people...

[–] farmgineer@nord.pub 11 points 1 day ago

I live in Japan where tons of pets are named 'mame' which means 'bean'. Pretty sure I've heard miso as well.

[–] genuineparts@infosec.pub 33 points 2 days ago

Coleslaw is a perfectly cromulent cat name.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago

This is my cat, California Club Sandwich.

Food names are cute on pets regardless of origin! I would totally name a cat "Butter" or "Paprika" or something.

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 3 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Used to work at an animal shelter. We had a cat named Patty have four kittens, so naturally I named them Lettuce, Pickles, Onion, and Bun. Every once in a while I'm tickled by the fact that I got away with naming a cat Lettuce

[–] anonymouse2@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 hours ago

Your were only 2 away from a Big Mac. Cheese would work, but I'm not sure about a kitten named Special Sauce.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 4 points 22 hours ago

"Letti" or "Letty" would be such a cute nickname for Lettuce :3

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There's a Scotty-Chihuahua puppy who's a regular at the local dog park here, and named "Snack Pack". He's the most adorable li'l goober! 🥰🥹😱

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Snack Pack?! It's perfection, no notes. Super cute!

This person has never met white people if they don't think we already name our pets after white food too.

e: Also never met other asians if they've never met an asian cat owner who named their cat mochi.

Diagnosis: Terminally online shut-in.

Food? You can easily get away with naming your cat after the Turkish word for cannibal.

Duckduckgo translate showing "yamyam" means "cannibal" in Turkish

[–] AHorseWithNoNeigh@piefed.social 29 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I think 'Emergency Rations' is a perfectly acceptable name for a cat.
