Charlotte's PR apparently realizing they have nothing to put in the news dug back through their past...we're talking about a player who retired before September 11th and thought now is a good time to honor a former player.

To be fair though, the team has been overwhelmed with their regular and post-season success in recent decades, so the delayed recognition does make sense. Like the DQ you worked at in high school sending you an employee of the month certificate when your 2nd kid graduates from high school.

I agree it's a little silly to be retiring his jersey now, but this franchise has almost no history. Muggsy was a big part of the NBA back in the day. If the fans want it, I think it's fine.

Dear God that dude. Him and Mason on NY were two of the dudes in the league you don't want to see in a dark alley.

@pdxfed I think he got swapped with Mason in Charlotte. I think you mean Oakley.

Mason was on the knicks team that went to the finals and was with them for their best years during their relevance and MJ's, Miller's, Thomas's East primes. He only passed away recently and is mostly remembered for his contributions with the Knicks though he did play for other teams.

@pdxfed right, I missunderstood your statement. I thought you mean LJ (him) and Mason on the same team in NY. But you meant from the same era. I agree... both were brolic AF.
Used to have LJs poster on my bedroom and had this issue of SLAM mag.

Sure, but they guy was last playing when Y2K was the major global concern! Taking nothing away from Bogues, it's not his fault, but's an admission of how hard up for a feel good story they are as an org.

He’s a really good feel good story, to be fair.

His name sounds like he’s a 30s gangster, he’s over six inches shorter than I am (I’m a moderately tall but still well within average height woman), and was one of the most capable people in the world at point guarding, somehow.

Oh I'm familiar with him--i watched him andLJ and 'Zo yam JT up. A sibling had the Hornets "Starter Jacket" in the early 90s. They were fun as hell to watch.

It's simply just weird they're just getting around to recognizing him now.Ybe they finally hired someone who understands the importance of legacy with a club and fans.

tbf I guess they were kinda busy with the moving, and the hurricane relocation, and the not existing for a while...
