For those that seek a future that brings together the best of the insights and objectives of people who, within the social democratic and democratic socialist traditions, have worked through farmer, labour, co-operative, feminist, human rights and environmental movements, and with First Nations, MΓ©tis and Inuit peoples, to build a more just, equal, and sustainable Canada within a global community dedicated to the same goals.

This community is not managed by NDP staff.

So it's been called, 100 years since conservatives have been the majority in BC. A record that should have kept going for at least two more years but instead Eby tried for a power grab and shit the bed so bad that he isn't even leader any more.

I was unhappy living in a conservative riding but at least they didn't have control, I wonder how long before a bigger schemer will wrestle control from Dorkson, he isn't exactly charismatic just less of a shit than Eby.

Now we are all going to be suffering under the control of party that will give very little to help people and put businesses first, which is going to be bad for everyone including businesses in the long run.

It was the dumbest idea since they elected that orange fuckwad down south. Now we have our own fuckwads.

POV me, basically every day since an election was called: Β

*Also now ~53% of the population are without representation.

BC going to the cons is a rather shocking sign for the rest of Canada. We're all headed in a miserable direction.

Also throttling election reform with silly referenda.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 week ago

Yup, BC NDP doomed us in 2018 with that decision.

Sad to say i called this.

I dont live in BC or Canada anymore but i was visiting in september and i have a freind who is deeply involved and interested in local politics so he knew days ahead that an election was being called.

He was pretty excited and said this was a smart move as the conservatives were in shambles. I only really follow international politics so i reminded him of Teressa May, and other snap elections that backfired. But he wouldnt hear it.

The average person doesnt know and doesnt care what state the party is in, or even what the platforms are. Most people vote like theyre backing a sports team and politicians are stupid when they think otherwise. Sure people rally around the flag when under threat like with Carney, but when the person to rally behind was the one to piss everyone off by being an egotistical shithead it kills peoples motivation to vote.

I hope people vote for damage control, but i think our only real hope is the conservatives keep infighting and lose their majority. Are they antivaxxers, climate change deniers, racists, or maple maga? That should cause some of them to flip independent and then hopefully people can find a reason to call by-elections for their seats.

The real lesson here is to back proportional representation. But the NDP wont because they are a shoe-in for a majority next election if the conservatives can hold it together for 4 years.

Edit: just saw the results, yeah i dont think enough of them will flip independent to make a difference.. Bad time to be thinking about moving home..

As an Albertan, I have nothing but sympathy for you. I would, however suggest looking back with regret isn't going to help much. You need to start building up NGO networks to start building parallel services for the sick, the elderly and the kids. They will come for health and education services first. It's their standard playbook. Organize like your life depends on it, because eventually, it will.

Short-time thinking on Eby (and NDP) part. They toyed with proportional representation, they should've stuck to their remaining 2yr mandate, get proportional representation and save us all the embarrassment. Also BC NDPs leaned so far right they were past 2000's Liberals to the right... so I guess it's time for them, like for Dems down south to do some soul searching and find their roots.

as someone who grew up back east there is something about Victoria that makes people make bad decisions. its like a spacetime warp or some shit. personally i find it charming, but its not for everyone....
