Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

I doomscroll on the Fediverse, thank you very much.

[–] expletivedeleted@lemmy.zip 9 points 10 hours ago

Well, Lemmy on Voyager is just doom scrolling and toxic with less content. I must be missing something if it is otherwise.

[–] commiunism@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

Fediverse isn't all that great though despite all the cope, scroll through all and you see that it's 50% news slop about how US conservatives bad that's designed to keep you scrolling, 35% porn, 5% leftoid memes and 10% for everything else, pretty much like reddit minus the copious amount of rightoids. The culture is also pretty much the same.

Engagement and upvote hunting also does play a role, else there wouldn't be people who make posting their day job or (as of late) bots automatically scraping popular posts from reddit to post here.

Like sure it's decentralized, but what good does it do when it's almost the same in content as the bad platform it denounces?

On the fediverse you can hold real conversations with people in comments. That rarely happens on Reddit.

However as the fediverse grows, even as we are seeing in this thread, it becomes increasingly impossible.

edit Wow there really are a lot of comments here. Are people botting these or are we reaching this real level of interaction? Forget about upvotes or views this is crazy.

[–] LeftReddit2@lemmy.world 5 points 10 hours ago

The problem is not the tool, it's the people using it.

Yeah, it's like people are addicted to doomscrolling.

I was very frustrated at everyone getting mad at twitter, and then going to bluesky instead of mastodon.

At a certain point, once everyone is there everyone else has to go there.

I will say fedi right now has a pretty good vibe. Some of the more negative/angry people have left and its been a chill little community lately.

[–] RustyNova@lemmy.world 16 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

At least with bluesky you can bridge to the fediverse and vice versa. So you can keep it comfy on the fediverse

Most people I talk to pretend like it's too complex. They're upset about a single company controlling their social media, but scared about not having that.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 28 points 18 hours ago (5 children)

I gave up trying once I realized the large majority of humans today dont know what a filepath is.

I'll retreat to my cave now.

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 13 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

dont know what a filepath is.

I have a friend who teaches a highschool computer elective and lesson 01 is Folders, creating them, what they are, etc.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 6 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Thank goodness. But shouldnt that be elementary? I was doing that when I was like...6...and there was no internet.

The trouble is, there's a bunch of awful people on the fediverse too.

I have absolutely no appetite for requiring ID to use social media, but the anonymity in any social media platform, regardless of its popularity, brings out the worst in some people.

[–] orca@orcas.enjoying.yachts 32 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

More folks need to get comfortable with the block button. I have a list of users blocked for being shitty, but there sometimes seems to be this weird mentality that blocking users instead of debating them is weak or something.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 16 points 16 hours ago (3 children)

Yeah, the 'awful people' in the fediverse really amount to, like, 5 to 10 people, total. Once you've blocked them, it's great.

[–] NotAnOtter@lemmus.org 13 points 15 hours ago

But that's like 25% of the user base D:

Also blocking communities, if you browse all and hate most of the posts and comments there.

Fedi does suck in your not into tech or leftist politics. Those are where the bulk of the content comes from. The memes can be funny sometimes but the lack of video clips really holds it back. People love short video clips but they're expensive to host. Catbox.moe is a good solution but you're still pretty restricted in the size of clips you can upload.

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 12 points 13 hours ago

tech or leftist politics

because that's what the public that uses it likes.

bluesky was probably worse before the migration. more people = more content.

i do like its left bias and wish we keep it though. breath or fresh air from fascist-owned social media.

[–] anewfox@lemmy.zip 6 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

it sucks if you actually read the articles that get posted and don't like 8-10 year old memes from reddit.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 4 points 14 hours ago

8-10 year old memes from reddit

Those communities' members are mainly 8-10 year olds, so it all adds up.

Because its E-Crack. You can know it is bad but still do it.

[–] DementedSociety@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah. Nothing toxic on fediverse lolololololololololololololololololololololioiloloollooloollol

[–] HCSOThrowaway@lemmy.world 8 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

You're letting the Perfect be the enemy of the Good.

[–] DementedSociety@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago (14 children)

That's a fair assement. Fediverse is orders of magnitude better than any other social media.

Yard Sale. People stay in big places, because it gives them access to a wider pool of people. Veritasium also replicated this theory.
