General off-topic chat for the crew of startrek.website. Trek-adjacent discussions, other sci-fi television, navigating the Fediverse, server meta (within reason), selling expired cases of Yamok sauce, it’s all fair game.

Wow.

I loved Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea as a child.

The original had women in significant roles, arguably with more status and authority than Star Trek until at least TNG, if not DS9. So, it makes sense to reboot it with a female lead.

But it was the combination of monsters in the deep and an exploratory vessel that made a VBS lunchbox my childhood favourite. Given the great quality of Kaiju Legendary Television has produced with the Monsterverse on Apple, this promises to be a high quality product for Paramount.

This is the first of three previously-announced Irwin Allen projects from Goldsman - it was described as a "new universe," but I'm not certain how connected they will actually be.

Looks like they've made some significan progress since that original announcement in February '25.

A Time Tunnel reboot would almost complete the set of early-mid 1960s sci-fi show IPs to bring back.

The only major one I can think of that’s been ignored to date is the bizarre fantasy Wild Wild West. It kind of had steampunk elements before steampunk was even a thing. That one deserves at least a movie.

...you do remember the Will Smith movie they made of Wild wild west in '99, right?

I’d forgotten that one with Will Smith, Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh, but 1999 is a long time ago now (and I had big life events that year). It sounds like I should track it down again.

The original television show ran 3 seasons on CBS, but the movies was distributed by Warner Brothers. So, whichever holds the IP rights, the merged Ellison company would have the rights.

Yeah, 27 years is a lifetime. Tbh, that movie is all I associate with the title, so I appreciate the info on the series.

Speaking of the nineties and wild west steampunk... anyone else remember Brisco County, Jr.? 😄 That must have come from nostalgia for the the same show?
