Hi! I hope this will be a gateway into the rest of the series for you! I recommend the adventure manga, the anime and games are wonderful as well! My favourite pokemon are, Dusk form Lycanroc, Rowlet and Silvally.

Good idea to keep it strictly for collecting. It turns into gambling real quick chasing cards. I really like Eevee and Snorlax a lot, they both fit my personality well. I have a much bigger yugioh collection than Pokémon but I bought a lot of Japanese packs for a while. I prefer those cos they don’t allow gambling for kids so some stuff isn’t as rare to pull and I just like look more. I get these little acrylic card stands on aliexpress pretty cheap to display the ones I really like that I want to show off
I also loved Yu-Gi-Oh as a kid. I love that artwork more but I decided to get into Pokemon because a lot of artists on YouTube suggest drawing pokemon to learn how to draw in 3D as an exercise. So I needed them for reference. Of course I could have just looked it up on Google images but having physical cards feels so much better. Even though my current collection is only worth four dollars according to an app my brother downloaded and scanned them all in. 30 dollars worth of cards vs four dollar worth lmao. I am definitely just in it for art purposes and inspiration.
Be warned that you're inevitably gonna get frustrated by the dipshits who DO collect for money. Some of them are VERY obsessive, to the point of tracking shipments to stores, so they can buy them out before anyone else. It sucks, but there's still room for for-fun collectors, if you can find places to buy from that have anti-hoarding policies, or just steel yourself for sometimes not being able to buy when you want. GL;HF.
I work at a dollar store in a small town, people go nuts over this stuff. Couple weeks ago, on the day after one of our trucks a customer comes in and asks if we have any pokemon cards. They haven't been put out yet, store manager down stacks and digs through 40 totes to find them, they spent about 700$ and bought them all..
At GameStop they usually have a decent selection.
I like Mr Mime
I collected them as a child in the 90s and very early 2000s, then they sat in my closet, then I sold a Charizard for $1000 and everyone wanted to ask me questions about my collecting and I had to be like "I don't" and see the devastation wash over them. My favorite remains Farfetch'd but I have about a 50 way tie for second place. 🤣
