Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani

This afternoon in Marble Hill, a New Yorker was shot by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood. Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds. We believe the child was physically unharmed.

This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.

Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.

Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children.

Abolish ICE.

Department of Homeland Security

On October 8, at approximately 4:00 PM ET, ICE officers were conducting a targeted enforcement operation in the Bronx, New York, to arrest a criminal illegal alien from the Dominican Repubic with a prior criminal conviction for grand larceny, and multiple prior arrests for assault, robbery, possession of drugs, and weapons possession. He has associations to the Trinitarios gang. The same gang who brutally killed a CBP officer last year.

This criminal illegal alien was arrested by the NYPD on December 7, 2023, but was released into the community a few days later by reckless Democrat sanctuary policies that put American lives at risk.

During the incident, an ICE officer discharged his weapon and the criminal illegal alien was injured.

ICE officers immediately rendered aid. The individual is alive and at a local hospital. The FBI and HSI are on the scene. The incident remains under investigation. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

When dangerous illegal aliens are released back onto the streets by radical sanctuary politicians, our officers are forced to make arrests at large in the community in unpredictable and dangerous environments. Our officers should not have to risk their lives, and innocent Americans should not have to face unnecessary danger, because sanctuary politicians refuse to cooperate with federal law enforcement.

I assume Zohran’s NYPD will be arresting the agent responsible and charging him with attempted murder? Right?

Arresting him for an exemplary demonstration of IDF training? Antisemitic much? cop

What do you want him to do? He’s just a smol bean. He can’t do anything except create “anti-Semite” hunting task forces apparently

It’s so fucking frustrating, like I don’t think it’s that big of an ask for local governments to enforce existing laws against these people.

This goon shot a man, arrest him and try him for attempted murder. Even when they don’t attempt to kill people ICE agents break laws constantly, just have cops follow them around and put them in fucking handcuffs as soon as they break the law.

I am a law and order conservative. All I want is to have our laws enforced, and that means arresting every ICE agent as well as any member of the Trump admin that enters your jurisdiction.

Mamdani would have had to replace the NYPD leadership and purge their ranks of the worst chuds to get them to follow his orders to do this, but he didn't even attempt that. He's the first NYC Mayor in recent history (maybe ever?) to not replace the NYPD commissioner. He went out of his way to avoid doing what was necessary. He tied his own hands so that later he could look out to his base and cry about his hands being tied. It's pathetic.

This is a live stream of the protests. Probably shows cops being violent at some point. The host is interviewing people on the street.

Trump voters love scarring children for life. This is evil

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 43 points 2 weeks ago

Anyone that voted for either candidate in the last presidential election is fine with child murder. Make no mistake any president since Bush could have ended this.

The same gang who brutally killed a CBP officer last year.

Oh no, they did it brutally? Can't believe that they didn't hug him to death.

Idk why this bit in particular was so galling to me in how inane it was but who knows. Life is full of surprises.

state-sanctioned violence: clean, necessary, antiseptic

non-sanctioned violence: brutal, abberant, threatening
