Over the last month, users have been sharing reports about an issue with Alexa. It appears the AI will get stuck repeating the word “la” over and over again. According to these reports, Alexa will continue saying this word for several minutes before it stops. You can check out an example of the error in the video below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFLtLb7vQHU

This isn’t the first time Alexa has been caught going haywire. Only a couple of months ago, users were taken aback when Alexa emitted guttural sounds, like those of a snarling animal. At least this most recent problem is a little less unnerving than that.

It’s unclear what’s causing Alexa to meltdown like this, but some users are blaming a recent update. Android Authority has reached out to Amazon for comment on the issue. This article will be updated when new information becomes available.

“My AI device is acting weird!”

“Did you say “AI device””?

“Yeah….”

“LMAO!”

The person taking the video is literally prompting it by saying 'la la la' themselves. Why would they be surprised that it's response is to sing it back?

Sounds more like they just have a child in the background.

Perhaps some legend replaced all the training data with Trolololo?

lalalalala

Seems like a perfectly reasonable thing for lalalalalalala AI to say lalalala. Have fun with the lalalalala training lalala data!

"But why should we be scared of that thing?" they inevitably ask themselves

I associate these things with guardrails being broken, this should not happen on it's own. Maybe too much synthetic training data?

I choose to believe it's the household deity voicing its displeasure at the occupants.
