Lots to criticize about China, but it's nothing if not proven as a stable partner in terms of its approach to international diplomacy and trade. They are consistent about what their goals are.

Nobody can count on the USA anymore. Perhaps they never could and it was always a paper tiger.

Immigration requires literally just got harder this year. Everything got more expensive and the requirements increased. Last/this year (I forget which because calendar vs fiscal years and such), they also changed the rules around buying property. Allegedly, this is mostly in response to Chinese buyers, though I don't know that there's any way to prove this.

What she realized is America isn't going to save them if China decides it's time to fix their revisionism problem (and create some new ones)
