Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

and every single time an idea that could've been genuinely worthwhile with enough time to gestate got rushed out and smothered by lame ass realization.

Is it still possible to be in the Metaverse? Can I live my xbox360 graphics dreams and walk around the virtual McDonalds headquarters?

[–] BilSabab@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Second Life is still online.

[–] toohotforsoup@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

College professors from the early 2000s rejoice - your future still exists

[–] BilSabab@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

your future still exists

future is Mount and Blade!

[–] Patrikvo@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I know it exists allready for a very long time. But somehow I always forget about that. I don't think I ever even tried it.

[–] BilSabab@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

it was kinda cool around the same time OG WoW launched and up until late 2000s. After that it fell by a wayside because it was basically a bunch of chatrooms disguised as MMO. The only thing really worth checking out is the Chris Marker's space - there's a Youtube presentation about it

zuck did immeasurable harm to vr by trying to dominate the field. utter decimation of expectations. he made a fool out of all of it.

i like what i've seen about the steam frame so far and look forward to having one hopefully. never, not once, not ever, shall i pressure anyone else into it; it's a personal interest, personal to ME and others who choose to adopt it.

Gee, it's almost like pressuring people into something makes it super not enjoyable for anyone. Anywho, I'm off to Google something only to scroll past the AI generated response I didn't ask for and can't disable.

[–] chewypoops@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Kagi is right there, bro. You don't have to keep going back to the abuser.

[–] Joelk111@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I use ddg, I was more making a point.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/-ai-overview/ this one does a great job on firefox and it's various forks.

[–] notthebees@reddthat.com 1 points 1 day ago

I partially disagree. It got standalone VR much more popular. I dislike all the Facebook stuff but as far as the headset goes, it is genuinely decent. Like I personally use a Lenovo explorer so it's about as cheap as it gets. But there are times I wish I got a quest because I could get away with wireless streaming from my PC.

It is a good compromise from all angles but I'm betting Facebook/meta is subsidizing the shit out of it.

[–] kamen@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Asked like this, I might actually prefer being left behind, thank you.

[–] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

PCVR mods are amazing though

[–] ericwdhs@discuss.online 1 points 1 day ago

Yep. Just stay away from the Meta headsets. They are cheaper than the competition for a reason.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

Yes! Yes, please? If this is your vision of the future then I want to be left behind, playing and laughing outside with my friends and neighbours.

[–] Heikki2@lemmy.world 41 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I still can't believe people bought those stupid monkey digital photos

[–] Napster153@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I still don't understand the part where some got 'stolen' and were held hostage...

[–] chewypoops@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

They were held in a poorly designed browser-based crypto wallet that only weirdos know how to use, so when normies wanted in on the get rich quick scheme, they would easily get confused and authorize third parties full access to the wallet.

I met someone once who had "invested" in these. Like, thousands of pounds. He thought he was super clever, talked down to us because we were so far out of the loop. I do wonder what happened to him. Poor guy.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

he learned nothing and is now chasing AI stonks

To be fair, nfts and vr were never forced on consumers quite like AI is. VR is incredible for certain types of gaming. NFTs are also incredible too. They allow you to quickly identify morons with disposable income.

[–] BilSabab@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

That VR Rogue Squadron game was some peak shit ngl

[–] Krafting@lemmy.world 253 points 3 days ago (1 children)

NFTs are also incredible too.

You had me in the first half, ngl

I upvoted the comment while reading it, then removed the upvote, then put it back.

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 111 points 3 days ago (21 children)

Correct, the only idiotic thing about VR is buying your hardware from Mark Zuckerberg. As the folks in the VR community here are already aware, I got my Steam Frame the other day and basically the only reason I've had to take it off my face since then is because the thing has a finite battery life.

The moment it was clear they couldn't figure out what the "Next Big Thing" was they started throwing shit at the wall before going "well if we can't find the next best thing, we'll force it on them!"

That's how we got to where we are with AI.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 72 points 2 days ago (2 children)

This is the future you don’t want to be left behind do you?

I hate the purported FOMO those bastards always promote to wide-eyed numbskulls wanting to be on the cutting edge of anything. Or mobsters wanting to get their money either laundered or splurge onto the most absurd.

[–] BilSabab@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

i don't think mobsters are dumb enough to launder money with AI investments but i'm not a mobster so i don't know how it works

[–] roserose56@lemmy.zip 25 points 2 days ago (7 children)

To be left behind is nothing someone should be afraid.
