Since we didn't respond super well to Friendship is Witchcraft two weeks ago, and I felt like 8 episodes of Scootertrix at a time was a bit excessive, I redid the weeks I'd planned for MLP abridged series to instead be a series of Wednesdays-on-a-Saturday in which I show some Norwegian movies I've been meaning to (re)watch. In other words, the return of TV☆3SIS Does Bygdekino!

Spermageddon (2024)
Spermageddon is a 2024 Norwegian adult animated musical sex comedy film directed by Tommy Wirkola and Rasmus A. Sivertsen. Wirkola you may or may not recall is a filmmaker who grew up with Northern Sámi as his first language but seems to have a bit of a complex relationship to Sámi identity, and he is the second cousin once removed of the ski-jumper Bjørn Wirkola of "jumping after Wirkola" fame. He directed Kill Buljo, which Camden showed on my behalf on New Year's Eve 2025, as well as Violent Night which Stalin showed in December 2025, among other films such as Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters and Dead Snow. Like Kill Buljo, Spermageddon was a controversial movie upon release that was met with a lot of protest that got into the news. In fact, that's how I found out about Spermageddon — this movie really dominated Norwegian headlines for a brief while in early 2025, when it premiered in the Nordic region. I translated an NRK article about it. I was a bit dismissive about the movie at the time, thinking it was gonna be this terminally unfunny thing that was just banking off viral marketing for its Controversial Nature™, but in hindsight the movie actually got pretty good reviews, so it'll be interesting to see whether or not it's a stinker.
So, let's kick back and enjoy this story of a young couple's first time, and the sperm's epic quest to fertilize the egg. It's like episode 8 of Once Upon a Time… Life stretched out into a feature film. Will this film as well reproduce (heh, "reproduce") the patriarchal "fairy tale" of the Great Sperm Race? …Probably. Almost definitely, in fact. But we'll find out together how this film reproduces, and how it perhaps undermines, the narratives we tell ourselves about human reproduction.

An "abridged series" is a fanmade parody that uses video footage from a television series—oftentimes Japanese animation—which is usually filled with comedic redubbing. They are called "abridged" series because episodes are usually not as long as the original episodes or tend to shorten events to meld two or more episodes together, making them a comedic summation of events. The first abridged series, Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Abridged Series, was created by Bea Billany, better known by her screen name LittleKuriboh, in 2006. […] Since most abridged series are uploaded to YouTube, they are occasionally subject to copyright takedowns by parent companies.
Scootertrix the Abridged
Scootertrix the Abridged is a 26-episode 2014-2019 abridged series created by Jack Getschman of Scootertrix Studios, hence the name. It's my impression that Scootertrix is the other major MLP:FiM abridged series aside from Friendship is Witchcraft. Or rather, Friendship is Witchcraft was the big abridged series for the early years of the brony fandom, and Scootertrix for the later years of the fandom, with the post-Twilicorn mid-2010s as a transitional period when both series were releasing new episodes. The fact that Scootertrix is associated with the later years of the brony fandom is significant, as Scootertrix in fact makes references to the abridged series that came before it and subverts their tropes. This is said to be the thing that sets Scootertrix apart. Scootertrix also crossed over with other MLP:FiM abridged series several times. Scootertrix the Abridged is furthermore notable for its use of the fourth wall as an integral part of its story arc, which starts out as a typical MLP:FiM parody before gradually diverging its plot from MLP:FiM and actually kinda taking itself seriously.
