We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.
5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW
Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.
No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.
6. No linking to piracy
Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.
We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

Halo of Duty sounds pretty cool as a title for a game.
Listen, the marines were always cooler than the spartans. They were just normal humans against giant fuckin monsters with gravity hammers and energy swords.

Can't say I'm particularly excited about Activision taking over, but this was a mercy killing.
With all these studio closures and layoffs, its hard to imagine what will be left of the industry here in a few years.
With how strong AA and Indy game studios are, I'm not worried. Good riddance to the AAA studios sucking up oxygen.
It sucks to see, but what happens sometimes (not saying always) is the truly talented people who got laid off can band together to make another, smaller studio.
I for one think it wouldn't be the worst thing if the gaming industry got a small correction from its current direction. And don't get me wrong, I'm not a "all AAA gaming sucks now" kind of person (I'm on a FF7 Rebirth replay and cannot wait for Revelation). But I think overall, we need games with slightly smaller scope from people who are paid better.
And with more variety. With very few exceptions, it seems I've been playing the same few games over and over again for 30 years and besides graphics very few things evolved.
Did it hurt to carve out the fevered flesh? Did it hurt to sever the gangrenous foot? The swines of the industry spent the last decade butchering their own carcass and selling it in pieces, now they're horrified that they're bleeding to death.
(I recently replayed Forgor: Hog Machine. Mandus kinda had a point.)

Well I suppose it'll be hard to do any worse than 343/Halo Studios has done with the franchise.

Good! Never has there been a more deserved studio closure. Campaign Evolved was a rushed mess.
Why even keep halo studios open?
Because closing the studio you hand picked to carry the franchise that used to set retail sales records explicitly says “we shit the bed” to the community and more importantly(to them), shareholders.
That makes sense, as I was thinking about it I realized that Infinite is still ongoing so they need to keep a barebones team around for support of that. But honestly I hope it goes away. Is so pretentious and cringe having a game studio named after the game series.
