Boycott US

Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

Among other things.

We will not be viewed kindly by future generations.

The fascist of the USA must be resisted to stop the atrocities.

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Unfortunately the fascists of the USA have the support of the populace at large. It's going to be a slog.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The no kings protests need to come back.

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You mean the quarterly No Kings BBQ?

Americans need to learn how to properly protest. Take lessons from the French, say.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think it’s better to encourage them if we want Trump out sooner.

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Whereas I think merely ousting Trump is a bandaid on an aortal bleed-out.

Reducing inequality can be done at the same time. That orange hoser hates extra pay for overtime.

They kinda don't though, the voter turnout is at the lowest it's ever been

The real issue is there's 5 groups;

  • don't vote "What's the point?"
  • don't vote "It's a safe seat anyway"
  • do vote, but for some tiny party, and the system punishes anyone who doesn't vote for the BIG 2
  • do vote, but for GoP (slight majority)
  • do vote, for Dems (slight minority)

The majority are those first 3 groups.

My coworker keeps talking about how his son, now a baby, can be gay but to just not bring his boyfriend home or kiss in his house. I can’t help but think about what a failure of a father and a human being he is, and I’m sorry that his son won’t have parents who love him unconditionally.

[–] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He probably thinks he isn't homophobic.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 weeks ago

Elder millennial here, we were raised with mainstream homophobia. I guarantee he doesn't think he's homophobic.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I mean do people generally go and kiss their SO in their parents house?

[–] spacegoat@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

It’s normal for Americans

[–] gwl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago

If lucky, the boy will rebel, and it will go one of two ways;

  • the dad is forced to reckon with his prejudice, and then realises his son matters more than them, and drops the prejudice
  • the dad drops his son

Either-or it's a win-win for the son

aaaaa why can't I have fucking got on hormones for like £50 a year at 12 when i knew I was a girl, now I have to spend tens of thousands and time and pain to get imperfect risky surgeries

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I upvoted your comment.

Off-topic but why are you on SJW? It is known as one of the least trans friendly lemmy instances coughs second admin has problematic statements cough.

[–] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Oh what has the admin done? I wasn't aware. I just picked it as it seemed like a fairly normal instance after lemm.ee shut down

[–] Xtallll@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

Can't get much more Trans supportive than blahaj zone.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Made some transphobic statements.

You can check imaqtpie’s modlogs and comments.

[–] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Wait, Sh.itjust.works is transphobic?

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Many conservatives come from there.

[–] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

I've been on it for months and I haven't noticed any conservatives

[–] MapleFawn@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 weeks ago

“Which trans kids? We don’t have any” - the masses apparently :-(

I do hope the future will be better

[–] TerdFerguson@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I will not likely show up much in history.. but if my personal data somehow survives to be analyzed meaningfully in in such a future context, they will see that I was not part of the problem.

[–] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I only hope that's true, I worry that in the future being trans will be fully criminalized.

The "Well we can have trans rights or women's rights." line seems to be working to suppress trans people

[–] EmotionalTea@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Those people are gonna be in for an awful surprise when we don't have trans rights or women's rights 🙄

[–] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You'd think the TERFs would realize the "Repeal the 19th" weirdos are talking about their right to vote.

[–] EmotionalTea@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Fr like what do you think the 19th is?

[–] Burn_The_Right@lemmy.today 4 points 2 weeks ago

Conservatives are pure evil. If you are ever unsure of the morality of any topic, simply watch conservatives and choose the opposite.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

I think, for the most part, trans kids would be helped by their local community, or at least tolerated and included. It's the propaganda and politicization to whip the small minded folk into a frenzy where it has become this national/international pure hate and fear fest. Inclusion and respect for all!

[–] Smaile@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

i think theyll damn us for the treatment of more then just the trans kids.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

I think the way we are ignoring climate change well be the biggest issue.

[–] fodor@lemmy.zip -1 points 2 weeks ago

Who is "we", white man?
