When I built my first PC, the graphics card I bought came with a copy of Crimson Skies.

Why has that franchise been abandoned?

Doesn't quite fit the question, but I was reminded it of it.

Be me a childish. At the end cap of target I see Total War: Rome II. I knew nothing about the total war series but it looked awesome! I went to pick it up but then my eye caught Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. I got that shit instead and never looked back. Robot zombies and mechas for the win

I had a CD with a bunch of games on it when I was younger, I can't remember where it came from but it had a bunch of games on it like Epic, Contraption Zack, some sort of game with domino puzzles, and some others that I can't remember and didnt get to play due to not having the manuals for the games, which at the time was part of the "copy protection".

I wasted a surprising amount of time playing Contraption Zack.

Assault Android Cactus, pretty neat twin stick shooter of goofy robot girls versus rogue robots, more challenging than it sounds. Got it in a Humble Bundle I think, and I clocked almost 600 hours on it, not even using all the characters.

Not exactly a bundle, since I picked these out specifically, but I found the first three Splinter Cell games on PC at the grocery store. This was in maybe 2010.

The grocery store near me used to sometimes have a shopping cart full of budget PC games. Usually they were cheap games that I wasn't interested in (Barbie, casino games, etc.), but sometimes they were budget-packaged versions of good games. I picked up Splinter Cell 1, 2, and Chaos Theory from there once. The packaging was just the game DVD sandwiched between two pieces of cardboard with the box art printed on it, but they worked!

Back in 2000, I found a two pack in the Walmart bargain bin for $10. I had never heard of the games before, but they sounded cool, so that was the day I was introduced to Fallout and Fallout 2. Favorite game franchise to this day.

Haven't picked up any physical media in a few years though, thanks to there being no car boot sales nearby and the charity shops just ebaying anything even remotely valuable.

I got lightning force one day with a pack of gen games at a yard sale when I was a kid.

Aquaria as part of the humble bundle. It impressed me with its originality and scope from such a small team sixteen fucking years ago now.

Syndicate on the SNES we rented as an afterthought for a sleepover as it was three for two at the video shop. Stayed up till 2 AM playing it and my friend's parents were pissed. I remember everyone was more excited about Wayne's World the game, which we also picked up that night. But the only good part of that was watching Wayne's big dumb spritey head jiggling about.

Can MAME roms count? Outfoxies has been a favourite melee brawler, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs for sidescrolling shoot-em-up. I always bundle them in with whatever mame build on whatever device if given a chance: "Got a four hour train journey? How 'bout some mame-game action?"

Rooting through a bargain cage in the 90's i came across an interesting looking game called Dungeon Keeper......
