I feel like valve is holding out on the steam deck 2 until the arm x86 compatibility is developed enough. Then the deck 2 will be arm.
Realistically there's no sense in a Steam Deck 2 in the midst of the AI-pocalypse. Any meaningful improvement in performance will mean a price of £1000+.
I agree, arm version won't happen over night but they can eventually get there with what they've learned over the frame. Just saying this can set the stage whenever that is.
My newest computer is my steam deck lol. My pc is from 2019. Ain't buying shit until... Or if it ever comes down again
That's an interesting idea. I'd be open to that. I just got a Retroid Pocket Nova, and I am shocked at what can run with GameNative. Ys X runs just about as well on there as it does on my pc. And only draws about 7-9 watts. New Vegas even runs. Frame rate drops when the physics start going. But the fact that I can run it on a $300 android handheld is nuts. I would love to see what an arm powerhouse can do. What could $500 get you in arm hardware? Or $600? Would you get even more performance running straight Linux?
If this was the "Year of the Linux Desktop"... next year will be the "Year of the ARM PC's".
Steam open source push is incredible and I'm glad they can finance a ton of shit and also they do it smartly and not just throw money. Some stuff like HDR would have ben multiple year away with valve. And the whole linux ecosystem can benefit it. More a corelationbthan anything else but since proton work with nearly all title finding company selling linux machine isn't as hard as before. At least company selling steamos hardware definetly proove valve involvement is precious
