/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

I think Nimoy could theoretically say both statements, "I am not Spock," and, "I am Spock," even in quick succession, without lying, due to English language semantics. It would probably be different if it was in a stricter language like presumably Vulcan.

I haven't read either book, but I suspect that "I am not Spock" means "I do not want people to define me entirely by my having played Spock." Meanwhile, "I am Spock" might mean "I put a lot of myself into the character of Spock." So, both statements "I am not Spock" and "I am Spock" can be simultaneously true with English semantics.

(I do suspect that his later title, "I am Spock" probably means, "Upon reflection, I have come to terms with my relationship with the Spock character." The earlier interpretation is just to show how both statements could be semantically true at the same time.)

I read I am Spock. I actually have a signed copy somewhere from when he was on his book tour.

IIRC, he wrote I am Not Spock as a sort of joke, where Leonard Nimoy would have conversations with the fictional character Spock in the book. It was meant to be funny and lighthearted. Apparently it came out when there was some Star Trek kerfuffle (between the TV show and the first movie, I think), and the fans just saw the title and thought that Leonard Nimoy didn't like Spock, and were really angry at him.

So he wrote I am Spock to set the record straight. It's also lighthearted, and an easy read.

I do like Leonard Nimoy, so you're making me want to check out those books.
