Mine are Hakim, overzealots, spooky scary socialist, wow_mao, and probably others that I don't remember right now

I don't think this counts as a question? But it's more of a discussion, hope this counts as one

Ive seen all of my other favs mentioned here so I wanna throw NonCompete into the mix. I'm not sure if he still calls himself an anarchist but he has been fully converted to a DiaMat worldview and gives really excellent analysis

[–] funnydudearts@hexbear.net 1 points 6 days ago

is he a good introduction for understanding anarchism theories though?

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Honestly feels kinda rude to call somebody you respect a breadtuber at this point.

[–] HiImThomasPynchon@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago

Yeah breadtube died a while back, and even beyond that it was never a useful term.

[–] Feed_el_Castro@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

Luna Oi is a Vietnamese communist party member, she also co-authors some translations of Marxist textbooks from Vietnamese curriculum that she's helping translate into English and are available for free online. She also participates in an all-female/female-adjacent podcast called Half The Sky.

A bit less "YouTube" and more into the podcast area, but ProlesPod is awesome, it's on YouTube, and the "Stalin Eras" series is the best content I've listened to.

[–] Letztertod@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I am at the point where most I feel like most socialists on youtube are high on their own supply.

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

Any content creator who's been a socialist for a while yet says "please support me, your subscriptions are what keep this show going" gives grifter vibes. Unless you have really high production values and frequent uploads, you can be a content creator as a hobby.

Trying to live off the elective financial support of tens of thousands of people in your audience is antithetical to a revolutionary horizon. At some point, you have to be offering people something substantial instead of begging for something substantial.

Revolutionaryth0t is cool . They are non-binary

[–] Feed_el_Castro@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago

They have a recent all-female/female adjacent podcast called Half the Sky, with Luna Oi (awesome Vietnamese commie), Rae from ProlesPod, and a few other girlies I don't know.

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Came here to say this as well. Lady Izdihar is also good.

[–] Sneakytrickyyy@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Lady Izdihar is a weird af, there was a short vid of her basically talking about how she's interested in gore and the macabre and went on to talk how the genocide in Gaza has given her some conflicting feelings

Haven't watched since because wtf

wut

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago (10 children)

That's fucking wild and I am gonna need a source for that. Never have I got bad vibes from her.

A lesser known creator that I like is Leaping Larry. He's an indigenous (Mikmaq) man living in Canada. He smokes weed and reads Juche books from DPRK.

On this line: Hakim, Hasan Piker, Luna Oi, Second Thought, Yugopnik, Lady Izdihar, Revolutionary Thot, Boyboy + Ididathing... All of those socialist YouTubers seem to orbit the same ideas and views on socialism, with all of them being appreciative of past and present Actually Existing Socialism.

Is there a similar "bubble" for anarchism? Because either I don't get it recommended because I'm a socialist and I'm not exposed to it, or anarchists haven't been able to organize such a sphere

[–] JollyRebellion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago (5 children)

The anarchism bubble is definitely smaller, but check out Andrewism (his stuff literally doesn’t miss), Anark, AnRel, Alki, Prince Shakur, idk. I’m still a bit new to it.

I feel like video-essayist is a legacy art form already. Theres so few of them still releasing good things that you cant be picky about the subjects.

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What do you think took its place? Or rather, there isn't an audience for video essays to be as common as they used to be?

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

cool stuff can be useful for praxis while pursuing the immortal science

How else do you think he could wire 400 car batteries together?

[–] Feed_el_Castro@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But seriously, is he a commie??

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

Rohan Davis, he lives in India and goes into Hindu fascism, casteism, colonization, the protests in India, and anti Indian racism.

Florian (Florida Florian) talks about anti romani sentiment and interesting things about Romani history and culture

Ly Luan Marxist ASMR does theory asmr

Prairiefire does amazing anti imperialist video essays, very underrated, him and Rohan are my biggest recs

Other than Ly Luan im not sure if any of the explicitly call themself communists or socialists but Prariefire has a 3 and a half hour video on why Korea should be one country so I have a feeling

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

Eh, I'm sure there's some good people out there but I've been turned off political YouTubers because they always find some way of disappointing you.

But there's lots of good suggestions here I guess, take your pick from those lists.

[–] dreamy@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago

George of Patmos, Boy Boy. I've watched some Hakim and Second Thought as well.

[–] PunkMonk@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 1 week ago

Not seen Bes D. Marx, Red Pen and TheFinnishBolshevik mentioned here yet, so yeah those guys too

[–] Renin@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I enjoy listening to Resistance is Fertile Podcast. It's where I eventually ended up after outgrowing my initial interests. It helps that they're a bit closer to home so I can like actually support in more meaningful ways.

This is what I would recommend, try to find the closest "Radio Station" to your location and see if you can learn from them and participate, because we're going to win. Yeah I know luffy-exhausted

[–] funnydudearts@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Unfortunately, I live in Iran, and there isn't much encouragement or agreement of socialism or communism over there, especially because of the PMOI terror which has traumatized alot of us, now it's either ultraconservatives or theologists that think the theology government is important, or the opposition that make up with different ideologies (except socialism and communism, tho social democrats do exist, one of the opposed party is called the "national front", not to be confused with the far-right one in UK), I'll see what I can do, nevertheless, thanks for your local podcast advice! doug-point-cry

[–] Renin@hexbear.net 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Maybe my choice of words was bad and I kind of regret recommending it anyways, in retrospect. I just suggest sticking to good faith interpretations because you never know what someone is going through.

[–] funnydudearts@hexbear.net 1 points 5 days ago

Nah, you're fine comrade, it's sad we just rely on youtubers to study ideologies... Instead where we could read the actual books, like the communist manifesto and das kapital for communism theories and introduction, I'll actually should start reading them... maybe

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Anyone have any alternatives to Lily Orchard? I like her blunt attitude and hearing her speak about conservatives with actual contempt and not as if they’re big mean bullies we have to begrudgingly be nice to.

…but I found some…not so good lore about her so I need an alternative person to watch when I want someone to angrily speak of fascists like the scum they are.

But to answer the question myself: Adam Conover, Innuendo Studios, and modern DarkMatter2525 are my lib choices and Hasan, NonCompete, Thought Slime, Hakim, Yugopnik, Second Thought and Luna Oi are my commie picks
