Speaking to my heart here.
while biking doesnt need fuel subsidies, paved roads are quite nice.
I don't know about anywhere else, but in the UK, most roads are paid for from general taxation.
Which is a subsidy.
It's also why we say that cars are heavily subsidized: road maintenance, parking spaces, large bridges... all costs that would be significantly down if urban areas were organized around public transit and active transit.
Car infrastructure is a cost paid by all for the benefit of only a part of society.
Road Taxes aren't sufficient to offset most maintance?
There may be exceptions, but for almost everywhere: no.
They're awful for the environment and are facilitated by our car-centric society.
Now how do we keep them from outlawing ebikes?
Protesting, and writing to your elected representatives I guess...
The silicon valley ebikes are not cool, I think they are all wired, and spying on us for income as much as actual fees to use them. Everyone, throw your ebikes in the nearest body of water.
We are set to own nothing, if we don't fight back. I own a bike, I don't fucking rent it.
Hmm. My e-bike is an electric motor slapped on a slightly-beefier-than-normal frame. The only electronics besides the motor is a simpler than dirt lcd-screen interface with spedometer, odometer, and buttons for controlling the mode and speed. The device doesn't connect to anything besides the motor, and that's by design.
I have on occasion used bikeshare-style e-bikes when visiting certain cities. Those are certainly tracked. But I feel like the "conventional" e-bikes like the one I described above surely outnumber the bikeshares by several factors.
Bikeshares HAVE to be tracked otherwise people are gonna steal them
Yeah that's what it's for if you're being charitable
I am sorry, the city I am in sometimes 98% are city bike company or whatever they are called, (shittee-bike.)
Self owned ownes are the ideal. Fucking yes.
Bikes are also powered by your manly body. In a truck, some woman or gay can push the gas pedal as well as you, but on a bike, your power proves your worth.
You can also fix a bike, even if you're a manlet with minimal tools. These days, fixing a truck requires buying some kind of diagnostic kit, probably made in china.
Iran or some other far away place you couldn't find on a map can mess with the oil supply and make it too expensive for your truck. Bikes are powered by food, and a real man has a garden and grows his own food as well as delicious spices.
Requires loan from big bank
For real though, get your auto loans through credit unions. Checking and savings there too. And mortgages. Actually, just don't use big banks.
Or just don't get an auto loan: Just get an old toyota instead.
Or move house to somewhere close enough to work and amenities to walk/bike/bus (if possible)
Unfortunately many have to finance even for modestly priced vehicles. Saving just a few thousand dollars is unfeasible at lower incomes, depending on your situation. Right on for Toyota though, hard to find a more reliable car (maybe Honda).
Option two certainly is better, for those who can swing it! Being able to go carless and just use public transit/bike/walk everywhere is the new American dream honestly.
When i say old toyota, I mean like a 1995... Or any non-turbo 1995ish Japanese car really, except Subaru... 😅
I've never bought a car with a loan. That's optional.
Need to pay mechanic to fix vs fix yourself in living room
Look at all those losers in the Cuck-wagons!
I biked in winter just fine. There are winter tires for bicycles too, and it’s usually fine unless streets turned into glacier, but cars aren’t much better in that situation too.
are there any studdded bike tires (I would love them for my ebike)?
There definitely are, they make them in a variety of sizes, so they should fit your bike fine.
But, be aware, it's different when using them. If you have a mountain-bike style tire, snow might be ok, but ice is dangerous. It's basically the opposite with a studded tire. If the snow is thick enough that you ride on top of it, you won't have much traction. You want the studs to bite into the ice instead.
Biking privilege cannot be revoked.... Yet
"Nice try, commie" dies from hastily eating twenty large spoons of tar
You never get stuck in traffic on a bike.
I agree, yet some municipalities do demand registration, and enforce it when they want to get you on something but have nothing.
As much as I agree, you're far less likely to get killed by a psychotic motorist in a car than on a bike.
This is particularity the case of where I live; I only bike on trails because of it but also only three months out of the year since I can't handle 90+ heat. There's no biking on the road here, people drive 60+ in a 45. You'll still run into trucks that will roll coal. And I used to bike 30 miles+ a day in Vermont. Here I have two fancy bikes that mostly collect dust. Kinda sucks. Also some people do intentionally try and mess with you here so I have to open carry(it's legal here) to deter idiots when biking.
BIG GOVERNOIMENT IS KILLLING US WITH THERE WOKE CARS!!!! 😱😱👿👿
