Per the language of the legislation itself

“Pornography is vulgar, candid, cynical, obscene depiction of sexual acts, pursuing no other goal, the explicit demonstration of genitals, unethical elements of the sexual act, sexual perversions, realistic sketches that do not meet moral criteria and offend honor and dignity of the human by inciting low instincts.”

So this appears to be a relic of the '00s culture war, spilling into Eastern Europe with the fall of the Soviet Union.

I, for one, will support the industry. For the troops!

Zero morality in the government of this American colony, so I'm shocked it wasn't legal to begin with. Bonnie Blue is a role model where I'm at, I guess they haven't caught up yet! They should probably legalize heroin exports too, and SLAVA UKRAINEEEE! happysoyjack.jpg

I'm hesitant about porn industry during war. The industry by default is way to exploiting. Now if it would be switched to legal status.
There going to be a lot more victims.

[–] ruuster13@lemmy.zip 20 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

That's what is already happening. The whole country is being coerced into selling their bodies. Whether it's fighting in the war directly or doing sex work, all Ukrainians are being victimized.

[–] Melobol@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 hours ago

That's true and very sad.

[–] codydodd@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Out of curiosity why does wartime make a difference if there is a moral line. Also legalization if done right will reduce victims as it will be regulated such as by European standards.

[–] SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org 5 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

The line has always been more religious than moral.

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Its not even religious, it being illegal gives something to keep poor people who have fewer options down and maybe there's aspect of "I would struggle with it so its easier for me if its illegal for both of us" kind of thing

I think I saw a lot of Russian propaganda about Ukrainian drafting officers dragging / catching men and drafting by force.
If even 10% of those news are true - how fast you think the same 10% will drag attractive women/boys/girls to star their smut? And don't forget the Mafia exist there also.

[–] codydodd@lemmy.ca 15 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

Nah your generalizations are ridiculous. The article talks about legalizing pornography which would allow them to tax the companies. Ukranian pornography stars already exist but are forced underground.

Drafting men for mobilization is different than legalizing an underground market that when unregulated benefits from exploitation.

You want to make a stand about mobilization, push for women to be called for national service. Dont push some bullshit moscow-sounding lies about state run pimps.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

I'm for it. Ukrainian women are some of the prettiest in the world.

Just one rule: all receiving gay actors must wear Putin masks, or be lookalikes.
