Emulation.

Uhh, theres good indie games...Foss projects.

Is there more? Maybe medical advancements no one can afford.

Offline hobbies are getting more love again. Carpentry, sewing and knitting, bird watching. Modding old consoles is one of my all-time faves.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh for sure. A good article here explains my take-basically yeah it all sucks but I'm gonna live my life doing things I like.

That’s my motto as well. Life is too short to live in constant fear, and we can control so little of it. Take as many PTO days as you can.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

Totally. Do what we can to inform and build community but try to keep world news to a minimum...realistically we can't change it.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I started painting minis. I love it

Ah good one3! I couldn't imagine Linux gaming 20 years ago when I first tried it.

[–] vogi@piefed.social 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So true.

Switching to Linux and Android makes me feel excited for new technology again. I did not felt that in a long time. All the software is just how it should be. No kings, no masters to appease–just the will to make something helpful. Also the homebrew community is real fun, hacked my DSi and Wii and I love how they reverse engineered a lot of servers that were shut down. Its small but fun–just the fact that we are all on a server that should not exists from all over the world brings me joy.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

exactly my experience. Made computing fun after being a slog for years!

I recently heard a take of "what boomers don't understand about millennials and younger generations is that we don't expect anything good to happen ever again." I've talked to a lot of friends about this and the general consensus is "...yeah" not a single person has disputed it, even a little. When I mentioned this to my dad, he complained that his social security might be reduced in the next few years.

Oh, that thing we probably aren't even going to get? Sounds rough.

[–] BreakerSwitch@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

I'll have fun paying for his before then, though

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I saw a debate where someone said "All of my friends are in their 30s. None of them have kids. None. Do you know how hard you have to abuse a mammal to make it stop having kids?"

And now I think we have an answer to that question.

i mean... i hope good things will happen, but yeah i don't expect them to. especially when we look at the climate crisis, we're probably one of the last generations that'll remember the world when it was relatively normal

i just hope i die before the whole planet is forced to ration drinking water

[–] kshade@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I don't expect it, but I'm also not going to be complicit in them getting worse. Lethargy and cynicism means you've already lost, which is what the assholes at the top want.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 4 points 1 month ago

We will not go quietly into that good night.

If you want some good news: the earth is greener than it was 20 years ago. About 5% greener, mostly due to big tree planting projects in India and China, but also due to de-desertification efforts on the edges of the Saha, Forrest restoration in the Americas rewilding efforts in Europe (which are also introducing native wildlife back to Europe like wolves, bison and beavers) and even the redesigning of urban centres to include more green space.

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Is it green enough to offset the amount of people & pollution from billionaires that we have now vs 20 years ago?

[–] Azzu@leminal.space 19 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

So much is getting better, social media and negativity bias in general is just making it seem like it's not.

Just for example, percentage of green energy is steadily rising. Even if it is not fast enough, that is still a constant improvement.

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

it's the hopelessness that gets to most of us, it certainly does to me. as you said not fast enough, all the good efforts exist sure but none of them seem to be able to outweigh the negative actions.

and even when good actions start happening i get the thought of "so we could've done that the entire time... but we just didn't" (i hope the NYC Mayor somehow becomes the president of the world, please)

You were right recently, but here in the US, massively increased energy demands by data centers (which in 2026 are using more power globally than all of Canada) are often being driven by sources that would be outright illegal even where they are in the US. Technically allowed by being "temporary" onsite generation.

I've really been feeling dismal about this one the last few days.

i love this guy. his best videos are of him being consistently disappointed in the quality of his taco bell meals.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

His mistake is going to Taco Bell for quality

That man needs a properly fitted suit.

[–] vogi@piefed.social 18 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

A big suit is part of his style though.

[–] 666dollarfootlong@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Is it not proper? There are many different styles of suits, maybe he just likes the classic american bulky fit

In no particular order, from where I am:

  • Linux/FOSS
  • Renewable energy
  • Crime rates
  • Consumer protection laws
  • Furry cons
  • Vegan & vegetarian products
  • The AI bubble (slowly)
  • Left-wing parties
[–] Brosplosion@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'd argue the AI bubble is still getting worse, just more slowly

[–] kshade@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

It's starting to show its cracks (see Facebook), I'll count that as getting better.

A decade ago, I assumed things would probably get worse, but goddamn I didn't think it would happen this fast.

[–] DeepDown@leminal.space 5 points 1 month ago

His face had kind of shaped into handsome squidward over the years

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Is there ANYTHING not getting worse?

That hotdog sealed in resin.

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Don't be silly, the fentanyl market is booming, and military spending is through the roof!

On a side note, I don't know who this guy in the suit is, but check his hard drive.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 4 points 1 month ago

Pretty sure this is that dude known as ReviewBro, who reviews fast food and stuff. Or used to, idk.

He was in a rather popular meme that goes "My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined." Lol

Review Brah's weekly reports are the one sane center in my hurly burly world.

"Hell-o, everyonnnne!

You just read that in my voice, didn't you?"

[–] Bluedragon012@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

It will continue to get worse because humanity has failed. God stays in heaven because the devil has won.
