how i feel watching an apocalyptic movie where all the men are clean shaven

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

Always bugged me how the grass wasn't overgrown in The Walking Dead. Who the hell is going around mowing lawns in the zombie apocalypse?!

Wouldn't zombie sheep eat baaaaa-rains?

My biggest gripe is when they're not cleanly shaven, visibly dirty and rugged, and then their teeth are blinding white. Motherfucker even my own teeth don't fucking blind me and I wash my teeth.

[–] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 hours ago

Bruh, when you're out in the shit and get a chance to shave, you do it. If you're used to a certain length, and CANT shave, it's like #3 on the list of things you dream about when thinking about getting back to civilization. So if you're always in the shit, you'll always put it high on the list.

There's this story that Mark Hammil tells about being on the set of Star Wars and he mentions to Harrison Ford that their hair should be wet, since it was just wet in the previous scene.

And Ford says something like, "This ain't that kind of movie, kid. If the audience is talking about our hair, something has already gone wrong."

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 48 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I actually really like that line. I remember watching the latest Star Wars trilogy and just nitpicking. I'm not a super fan, I don't even own anything Star Wars. But, the movies kept pulling out stupid takes that my suspension of disbelief was gone and I kept focusing on hyper details.

I also like that Harrison Ford calls everyone kid.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 28 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Mark Hammil does an excellent Harrison Ford impression, so there's a possibility that the "kid" is part of the impression, rather than a direct quote. Also, I was doing the quote from memory, so I might have remembered it wrong.

But I also like the thought that Harrison Ford calls everyone kid.

Ford's attitude about the films has always just pissed me off. If you don't like something, which you clearly don't, why you do it in the first place?

Hell, I'd argue his career wouldn't be what it became without star wars and he should at least be able to acknowledge that.

He always just comes off as "I'm better than you, I'm better than this franchise, I'm better than anything"

Christopher Eccleston famously hated Dr who, and he never seems to say a negative thing about it. Plenty of MCU actors hate the MCU, they don't talk shit, and I can't see them talking shit about them for several decades either.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 1 points 45 minutes ago

why you do it in the first place?

it paid more than carpentry. No, really.

[–] turtlesareneat@piefed.ca 21 points 3 hours ago

Ford struggled with anxiety and imposter syndrome early on, and developed his tough, flippant exterior around that as a coping mechanism. So there are a lot of stories about him saying callous, tough guy things. But he's quite a softie who really loves the art of acting, so I don't think he's really dismissing everything and everyone outright.

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 12 points 3 hours ago

I think Ford's attitude is similar to Guinness' attitude - it's not that he hates Star Wars, it's that he hates that it's completely overshadowed his other work and nobody ever talks to him about any other part of his career.

Maybe they forced her to get laser hair removal when they were messing with her. Super underrated show! I love Dirk Gently, whatever character has screen time at a given moment is my favorite character.

100% guarantee that if she did have armpit hair some other sad bastard would be making a post commenting on it

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 hours ago

Honestly, this is still an argument in favor of it, in my opinion. Those people only have their opinions because they were normalized at one point in time. If they're angry with you then you did something right, and hopefully in the next generation that opinion will be even less normalized.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 3 hours ago

Ah yes, the famous problem of making everyone happy.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 10 points 5 hours ago (8 children)

I'm not sure that's a good enough reason to avoid showing women with body hair in media.

Not everybody’s armpit hair is dark black and long and curly. This is what my spouse’s armpits would look like whether they had shaved recently or not.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Let's not pretend like it's normal for the media to show women unshaved.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 hours ago (20 children)

That has nothing to do with what I said.
