We’re more than a nation known for maple syrup and neighbourly friendliness. We’re compassionate: A relatively small town in Gander, Newfoundland, fed, housed, and emotionally supported Americans during the 911 crisis. The “Canadian Caper” was another time we aided the U.S. (there’s a movie about that). We have supported the United States for years in bogus wars at the expense of our young Canadian people. And now, the U.S. blasts us with tariffs? Thank you, Mark Carney, for saying enough is enough!

Throughout trade talks Trump has regularly insisted that his business savvy is laid out in his book The Art Of The Deal, which he did not actually write because it was ghost written by journalist Tony Schwartz who has since denounced the president.

Thank you Beaverton, I knew I could trust your journalism past the headline

ghost writer probably did 100% of the typing, with trumpy just contributing with shitty ideas

“I wrote every word of it,” Schwartz told Good Morning America Monday. “Donald Trump made a few red marks when I handed him the manuscript but that was it,” he continued (this is far from unusual in terms of ghost-written celebrity books). Trump has denied this, saying he wrote the book. Link

The US president is, according to his own aides from the first term, functionally illiterate.

Not sure about that source. Presidents have speech writers. Those writers are historically gangrenous I mean fantabulous influencers

You're not sure if we can trust the listed co-author of Trump's most famous book that ghost-wrote it for him, on who wrote the book?

There's absolutely mountains of evidence that Trump operates at a 4th to 6th grade level as an orator, and video evidence (courtroom) of him refusing to read a page in front of him, claiming various things 'text too small', 'don't have my glasses' (Trump has never been pictured wearing glasses) etc. Bro can't read anything beyond the McDonalds menu to identify which number he wants next to a picture.

However, he wasn't president until almost 30 years after the book was published. I'd be surprised if he had speech writers back then, especially given that he was considered a tabloid writer's dream at the time; an easy punchline to any story about the ultra-wealthy being out of touch.

Sorry it is silly to consider in this anything rational

[–] treesquid@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

That is more generous to Trump than the truth.

[–] hexdream@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

"Author" seems a little generous here.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

I don't think there's any debate as to whether trump wrote that book or not. The only debate is over whether he ever read it.
