That's what happens when you have a premier who funnels the money for the hospitals into his buddies pockets.

The system is still functional if you are willing to be patient and not expect fast care for minor ailments. With private care if you can’t afford good insurance you’ll get no care or go bankrupt. As someone who was born and raised in the US and whose family is still there - you don’t want that nonsense

Let’s protect our system by voting in governments at the provincial and federal level (I’ve since become a citizen so I can say “we”) that want to restore and expand access to care and not hand it over to Manulife, Sun Life, Greenshield etc.

I think this is more of a US funded psyop to make people throw away free healthcare and adopt the american model.

I am happy with the healthcare I have, I'd be dead without it.

Ya this site is owned by Postmedia which has U.S. ownership.

[–] GrackleBirb@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 hours ago

I wish people would check these things before posting articles here. Postmedia is the worst and supports a lot of perspectives that are purposefully looking to discredit our politicians, institutions, healthcare system, and way of life in general.

Have you recently waited 16 hours with an eye injury, fell asleep waiting for someone, anyone, to see you, decided the wait was worse than the pain, and left?

Or had a family member have a screening completely miss a cancer full blown their bones were crushed and spread throughout their entire body, only to be caught when they literally had less than a week to live?

Or you mother nearly killed multiple times by doctors giving her medication that was obviously causing her distress, strapping her down, and decide giving her more is the proper course of action. When that drug is explicitly black labelled to not use on a patient with their condition or age.

Conservative governments are the ones doing this.

Billionaires and hedge funds are the ones doing this.

This isnt a psyop. The private system is here.

It's been planned for ages.

Edit: Reading comprehension is low.

This is a rant against the private system. The bleeding out of funds to public sector. And the ones responsible for it.

The examples are actual personal experiences - just this year.

It's worse in alberta from what my relatives tell me.

With 3 terms of Doug ford in ontario, he's already essentially killed the public sector with his wage freezes and autocratic no debate sweeping bills.

This is what happens when you vote in cons who destroy public institutions for private dollars and leave a trench so deep, no other party can fund our way out of it.

Ontario is still dealing with the Harris debacle and that was 30ish years ago. Now we have captain cankles who’s a cuck for loblaws and privatizing everything he possibly can for our OHIP to be spread thinner by being used at private for profit clinics at twice the cost of public services.

We need real leadership that doesn’t bend over to lobbyists and corporate dollars in private home based off the records deals.

Really? After so many years of loss of funding, cost-cutting, layoffs, political meddling and privatisation? I'm shocked. Flabbergasted I say.

If only the government actually wanted to care for the people it supposedly represents. :(

It's almost as if most MPs see their positions merely as vehicles for personal gain.

[–] EmilieEasie@fedinsfw.app 9 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

please don't let them pitch privatization as the solution 😭

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 12 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

That's literally the plan they have.

  • Cut funding for healthcare until it fails

  • Privatise it because "Public healthcare doesn't work in Canada."

Just like mobile networks are "more difficult to create" and why there isn't yet bullet trains connecting the country; because Canada is special.

[–] EmilieEasie@fedinsfw.app 2 points 3 hours ago

Nooooo I hate it. I'm American and I don't want Canada to slide backwards at all, the jokes about calling an Uber instead of an ambulance are real 😵

[–] kandykarter@lemmy.ca 25 points 20 hours ago

Of course the system has worsened. Like every other public service, it's stretched to the brink because we refuse to tax the rich enough to fund it properly.

[–] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 19 points 19 hours ago

All the public services are in crisis because the wealthy keep paying for politicians to neglect, defund or otherwise impoverish them.

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 19 points 20 hours ago

Canada’s health care has been in a state of crisis since shortly before the Federal government offloaded governance of the system to the provinces.

The argument was that it let provinces handle healthcare in a way that was more regionally appropriate. The reality was that it spread the blame around between multiple provincial governments, and let Federal politicians evade responsibility.

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 7 points 20 hours ago

No shit. Have you tried to get healthcare in the past decade?

Anything less than a fatal injury, or an illness that prevents you from working and therefore paying income tax, is ignored.

[–] NarrativeBear@lemmy.world 4 points 19 hours ago

Only the healthcare?

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 19 hours ago

Just hire another round of BCG/McKinsey and let them explain the best way to get more productivity from some already stressed doctors.
