“I’d like to reiterate how difficult it is to have granola infected with salmonella. It’s even more difficult than chili peppers, and no, it’s not ‘foreign producers’ that are the problem,” Chef Joe Gera wrote on X. “It’s quality control and standards not being enforced.”

They literally don't care about us. These giant corporations and rich assholes have almost all of the money and power, but it's never enough. They'll relax regulations and standards to increase profits and if people die, oh well!

And funny enough because every supplier has now lowered their standards, it means every manufacturer has to spend more doing checks to see if raw materials are actually up to quality required.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No they don't. They don't care about quality either.

Up to the point that whatever they use or produce doesn't work anymore because of bad parts, or customers die, their stuff gets a reputation like the Ford Pinto and sales tank.

With how many corporations have merged, they don't care anymore. They'll risk the loss because they can pivot to a different brand in their conglomerate.

On anything that matters, try and buy local. The smaller the company, the less they can ignore risks like you mention.

As always in life it's a little column a and b. I think what they're trying to get at is that this doesn't save any economic productivity in the long run and runs counter to the traditional "principles" of capitalism.

I don’t eat lactation granola

[–] TisI@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

Ok, so how are these items contaminated? I've never heard of this outside of the US.

“Hampton Grocer has recalled its popular Lacnola Lactation Granola”

Sorry, the what?

[–] Codpiece@feddit.uk 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Well you don’t eat yours dry, do you?

[–] bacon_pdp@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It helps when breast feeding. I downed whole boxes in a day when I was breastfeeding.

[–] DaveyRocket@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Oh, I’ve been eating them while feeding on a breast - I thought it was a whole milk-and-cookie thing…

We are the only developed country that has allowed salmonella in our chicken supply, after pressure from the industry. Propublica did a piece on it some years back.

you know I heard we were heading towards a food safety crisis and at the time I kinda thought it was a bit fear mongery.

now? not so much.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 7 points 1 day ago

The bigger danger is chemical contamination in the food supply, and it's harms will rarely if ever be recognized for their sources. Not unless we make them be recognized. Not an easy task with influence operations and social media being completely sold out.

Lunchtime, reading this while eating blueberries + ancient grains probiotic granola on top of cottage cheese ... fuck.
