You can't write a memo that overrides the fourth amendment, actually (which is why this is news from January). You still aren't required to open the door from ICE unless they present you with a warrant signed by a judge, NOT an administrative warrant. Say you do not consent to them entering or searching. Specifically invoke your fifth amendment right to remain silent if they come in anyway. Don't say shit, record if you can.
Liberal Gun Owners
A community for pro-gun liberals.
Yeah because they’ve been following the law up to this point…
Anyone that tells you to not try to invoke your constitutional rights is a fed or doesn’t have your best interests in mind.
All they are saying is the law won't protect you in the end. You can't rely on it to save you.
That is valid as an emotion. But it does not help your neighbor when ICE is at their door. And it does not aid the cause of the resistance.
“Call 911” is an example of useful advice. 2 reasons:
- It creates a timestamped record of the home invasion that is difficult to bury or erase, can be aired by local news stations, and is fully admissible as evidence in any state or federal court (Davis v. Washington).
- There are now increasing reports from across the country of local and state police arriving at the scene of ICE home invasions and abductions with body cameras on and either mediating or stopping an abduction in progress (by, for example, acting like they are pulling jurisdiction and arresting the victim to secure them in their squad car). So there is at least a chance the law could, in fact, protect you.
Again, valid as a feeling. Just irresponsible as advice. More importantly it is what ICE would prefer that people believe so they lose hope, give up, and do not resist.
Edit: spoiler tag
Moreover, ICE in some jurisdictions has been imitating police, even pulling people over and flashing badges to make them think it's a traffic stop. I can't imagine local PDs being too pleased with this happening, even if they're both arms of state violence.
Depends on the local pd. Many are signing up to work as ICEholes.
Many but likely small as a percentage, since most departments and unions have strict rules re: dual employment, and most wouldn’t give up their benefits for a temp federal gig.
By contrast, the group that is by most accounts way over-represented among new ICE recruits are wannabe cops (rejected applicants, academy dropouts, and disgraced former cops) which if nothing else puts in perspective the nationwide trend of police impersonation by ICE agents described above.
It’s not a dual role, it’s partnering with ICE at a state or county level. As of last August around 1600 local departments were doing that.

People are learning this too slowly. The social contract is broken and there are no laws, that's the reality of the situation and that's how they will behave. 2nd amendment is all people will feel they have left and I don't blame them.
I think "try" is the operative word here.
They can because they are doing it and nobody is stopping them.
They ‘can’ the same way they ‘could’ before this memo: illegally. If they could walk into any house they wanted and kick the door down with impunity, zero legal repercussions, they wouldn’t be struggling so hard to fulfill quotas.
Spreading panic about what ICE can and can’t do legally helps nobody, but it’s a great way to boost the perceived power of the Trump administration. If you want to stop this from happening then get involved with immigrant justice organizations in your community.
Sounds like im royaly fucked either way. I guess if you do everything right, dont get murdered first, and fight back for years, you may get a payout in the end?
Or a judge intervenes in your case because your rights were violated. Regardless, this was the case before the memo as well.
Although you are correct, it still won't help when they decide to shoot you and then proceed to face zero consequences...
"Are you harboring any Jews" vibes

Cats are allowed on the counter, says cat
Would be a damn shame if someone were to tip off ICE about seeing Joe-Bob Earl harboring a foreign family. Oops! Was that inaccurate?
Be aware this is very illegal.
Indeed, it'll cost you approx. 6 months in most US jurisdictions. Really makes you wonder 'bout where priorities are when sharing a movie with a friend can land you 5 whole years under DMCA.
So are lots of things.
This is jokes. We all know this site is just for silly content.
I unfollowed all the MAGAt gun tubers as soon as ICE started their reign of terror and none of them said one word.
Then why did you follow those morons in the first place? Do you really think they were genuine?
Mostly for entertainment, but finding out they were bitch babies larping destroyed any value their content had in my mind.
2nd amendment dudes are way too busy sucking law enforcement cock to notice.
I’m so sick of this trope on Lemmy.
MAGA are the 2A gun owners. We know. We get it. Do you get it?
The point is that all their talking points have always been lies. It's worth pointing that out, even if it gets old.
I fuckin hate these say-nothing "memes"
Screenshots of social media "zingers" taken by the person who replied to advertise their social media accounts.
The internet was full of slop before AI and it was shit like this
I wish more communities had a rule against crap like this. It kills them.
They will tell you that more content is better
But they can't. Doj memos or executive orders aren't fucking law and we need to stop acting like they are.
Each gun owner I know are the biggest pussies on the planet. Fucking losers.
So if you open fire with loaded grapeshot and wipe out their entire group, what happens?
Areyouharboringfugitives.gif
They're must assuming/hoping tuatbthe government won't come into THEIR homes, just the homes of the funny talking smelly brown people
