Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.

I mean, Israel's going to have a more-Muslim population than the UK does.

Israel: 18.0%

United Kingdom: 6.0%

Yes, BUT the UK doesn't see muslims as subhuman.

Tbf, generally the UK on the whole is much more accepting than a lot of other places. There are noisy and growing fringe movements, but the quiet majority of Brits just want everyone to queue up and get on with it.

Brits just want everyone to queue up

Finally! Now we're getting to the real issues

We're actually a constitutional monarchy, so suck it Bibi.

Lolwut ? I want the drugs he's on...

Pakistani got the bomb in the 1990s and they genuinely are both a republic and a majority muslim (I'm not sure the exact definition of "Islamic Republic" he's using.)

On the other hand a single digit percentage of the UK population are Muslim (6%), and dude, we've been a monarchy for all bar a couple of decades of the last 1500 years.

The Muslim thing is less a worry than trying to pretend one of the longest running monarchies around is a republic, I mean it's just delusional.

In the last millenium England has only been a republic for the couple of decades in the 1600s when Cromwell took over and executed the king. Scotland has been a monarchy the entirety of the last millenium, Wales has been under the English monarchy since the Normans finished slaughtering them in the 1300s.

Lmfaooo fucking Chabad...

Literally one of the main reasons Russian invade Ukraine in 2022 was to prevent the Ukrainian civil trial against the former owners of PrivatBank, who had been laundering shit tons of Russian money, and much of it went to Chabad charities in the UK, Europe, and south-east US (particularly Delaware). They bought up loads of land. There were other trials in Delaware and the UK, these were postponed in lieu of the Ukrainian trial (where discovery would surely uncover more details than anywhere else) - billed to be the trial of the year, if not the decade - which was scheduled for summer 2022.

The King was stripped of power after the American Revolution in the Madness of King George. I think they sent the old bitch into a puzzle factory at some point. I hear he pissed blue sometimes too, he had something real going on medically.

So 3 centuries of republican rule in truth. Plus the English wrested more power from their monarchy than the others with the Magna Carta and all.

If Australia isn't a Republic calling UK one is reaaally stretching it

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 0 points 1 day ago

Who says Australia isn't a republic? Both the UK and Australia are degenerated but still republics, nominally. In truth they both crossed over to oligarchy just after 2021 I would argue. Still republics though.

[–] SapphironZA@sh.itjust.works 10 points 4 days ago

They are also the first Hindu republic to get one, the first Polish Republic, the first South African, the first Australian, etc etc

Its called being a multi cultural society. Its is everything that makes people civilized. Its exactly what that the Zionists, the Islamic extremists and the Christian fundamentalism hate.

They are actively supplying israel with weapons for genocide and Netanyahu disrespects them???

My guess is Burnham refuses to talk about it. Too much money is changing hands. If the genocide doesn't bother him an insult won't phase him.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

benny probably fears they are losing support from the UK.

[–] Andy_R@feddit.uk 3 points 4 days ago

This also helps to rally the far right at home who think we’re overrun by Muslims. So it galvanises the sort of people Burnham supports.

[–] MonsterMonster@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

What a knob

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 days ago

Burnham's going to get right back to licking those boots.

[–] MrNesser@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

Oh fuck off you old git.

Go and bother someone else

Fuck off you butcher.

Relations between the UK and Israel have been increasingly strained in recent months, especially since Andy Burnham took over in No 10. Shortly before becoming prime minister, he apologised for Labour’s initial response to Israel’s military action in Gaza, saying the party “didn’t get it right” and needed to “do better” under his leadership, signalling a significant shift in the UK’s approach to the Middle East.

This line literally made me tilt my head. The Guardian can't make up their mind whether Burnham is the reason the relationship with Israel is strained, or whether Barnham becoming PM is going to make it better.

[–] Souvenir@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Given the context, I assume they mean that Burnham is apologising for a too pro-Israel initial response to what happened in Gaza. Something which of course would further strain the UK's relationship with Israel.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world -1 points 2 days ago

It is all acting. A friend labor of Israel is not going to abondon israel

Right wing nutjobs spreading right wing nutjob talking points.

[–] heliotrope@retrofed.com 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Well, that's going to ruffle some feathers...

[–] thanksforallthefish@literature.cafe 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Sadly I doubt it will. The sycophants in the Labour party are bought and sold by the Israelis - they'll roll over and show their tummy, they wouldnt want to stop those sweet sweet ~~bribes~~ donations

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 1 points 4 days ago

The sycophants in the Labour party are by and large blackmailed by Israel as well, which deserves a mention with the bought and sold part.

It's true.

[–] fakeman_pretendname@feddit.uk 1 points 4 days ago

What was that, Ben? Did you say "I am Britain's enemy - please nuke me"?

[–] not_woody_shaw@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

I guess this just makes him look like a jackass, which is a better look than some others he has.
