General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Lolwut ? I want the drugs he's on...

Pakistani got the bomb in the 1990s and they genuinely are both a republic and a majority muslim (I'm not sure the exact definition of "Islamic Republic" he's using.)

On the other hand a single digit percentage of the UK population are Muslim (6%), and dude, we've been a monarchy for all bar a couple of decades of the last 1500 years.

The Muslim thing is less a worry than trying to pretend one of the longest running monarchies around is a republic, I mean it's just delusional.

In the last millenium England has only been a republic for the couple of decades in the 1600s when Cromwell took over and executed the king. Scotland has been a monarchy the entirety of the last millenium, Wales has been under the English monarchy since the Normans finished slaughtering them in the 1300s.

Lmfaooo fucking Chabad...

Literally one of the main reasons Russian invade Ukraine in 2022 was to prevent the Ukrainian civil trial against the former owners of PrivatBank, who had been laundering shit tons of Russian money, and much of it went to Chabad charities in the UK, Europe, and south-east US (particularly Delaware). They bought up loads of land. There were other trials in Delaware and the UK, these were postponed in lieu of the Ukrainian trial (where discovery would surely uncover more details than anywhere else) - billed to be the trial of the year, if not the decade - which was scheduled for summer 2022.

The King was stripped of power after the American Revolution in the Madness of King George. I think they sent the old bitch into a puzzle factory at some point. I hear he pissed blue sometimes too, he had something real going on medically.

So 3 centuries of republican rule in truth. Plus the English wrested more power from their monarchy than the others with the Magna Carta and all.

If Australia isn't a Republic calling UK one is reaaally stretching it

Who says Australia isn't a republic? Both the UK and Australia are degenerated but still republics, nominally. In truth they both crossed over to oligarchy just after 2021 I would argue. Still republics though.
