I genuinely believe at this point that trump is working to weaken the United States, how big of a chance is there that this is deliberate, that he's not actually acting in good faith of the American people based on his actions?
The US will need decades to recover from this.
I hate to sound defeatist, but the US will never recover in its current form. The US political system is too right-leaning, and the right wing propaganda machine and cuts to education have done irreparable damage.
We need a complete change in trajectory to recover, and left unchecked the GOP and DNC will burn the country to the ground before they let that happen. Nothing short of a French medieval device will do.

I will add, even once US recovers from this, people killed by ICE aren't coming back.

Its very improbable, but the sudden rise of democratic socialists and massive support thats forming around them does open up possibilities, if enough of them get elected to power, they could start to right the ship. Get even more into offices, and they could start undoing bullshit and passing fresh new laws, for the people, not the powerful.
I don’t believe the end of our current political system means we all die, it hopefully means the shitheads in charge face consequences and we get a system in place that doesn’t let this happen again.
I’m a Canadian but I strongly suspect the US will never fully recover from where they are now. Even just consider international relations - Trump has irreparably damaged America’s relationship with Canada. I seriously doubt Canada will ever fully trust the USA again.
A stark contrast to 10 years ago when we had one of the strongest allied relationships on the planet.

I doubt anyone fully trusted the USA to begin with. Its not like betraying deals and acting against friends is a sudden new development afterall.
but I do think, if we can start to cut the cancer out of the country, you would find a lot of the world welcoming the US back, if for nothing else than their own personal interests.. probably mostly as a geopolitical counterweight to china.
Old people die. Young people take over. What does canadas youth think of americas youth? Those are the only opinions that matter, ultimately.

I'm pretty firmly convinced the reason it took this long for the fascist takeover and probably WWIII is because it took about this long, 70-80ish years, for the living memory of WWII to, uh, stop living.

In the heyday of premodern aristocratic dominance in Europe, median life expectancy at birth was ~10 years, so about half the children died before they turned 11 (though the ones that survived the fragile first decade tended to live a lot longer after). Between this grim statistic, stillbirth, other accidents that could kill them later on, women had a lot more children than today and spent a longer time pregnant or nursing.
The result of this, of course, is that women could spend less time working the fields and were more dependent on their family and partners to do the bread-winning labour (they were by no means idle; spinning thread, fetching water, spinning thread, making food, spinning thread, weaving, making clothes, spinning thread, cleaning the house and so forth all took a lot of time and work (particularly spinning thread, if it wasn't clear enough), it just didn't suffice to make a living.
Before that background, I suspect that there is a method to this, whether consciously planned or a byproduct of chasing a past where men were even more dominant than they still are: Chaining women to childcare and domestic work to render them dependent on their male family members.
Maybe it's a crackpot conspiracy theory. At this point, it's getting hard to tell what's intentional bigotry and what just suspiciously looks like it.

And this has always been the case, its not just now causes old and rapidly declining.. Though the old and rapid declining part does make it a lot easier to push his buttons.. Which is why his manipulators like Miller and RFK try to stay close at all times.
