Hi Peeps.

So the issue is that stremio wouldn't play a movie on my Thomson (onn box clone) media player tonight. I tried different streams, but every single one wouldn't play.

I then tried it on my android phone and loads of streams worked no problem.
Any idea why this would happen?

Cheers.

I'm experiencing this in the Smart TV at home.

Both yesterday and today I had to uninstall and install again. I assume clearing cache would work but the Smart TV's OS is some samsung crap based on Android that I don't really know what it has or has not, and I can't find a way to clear cache.

It does have a "reinstall" option that does something pretty much instantly but I can't tell what. It's faster than an installation and it does not clear data. Maybe the "reinstall" clears cache and if it does, clearing cache would not work.

Meanwhile, on a regular android phone it works with no issues.

How very annoying!

I'm going to install Nuvio in a bit to see if that does the same thing. Maybe that's an option for you too?

Nope. Part of the good samsung crap is that the app store is kind of non-existent.

Maybe I can side load apps but if I can I don't know how, I may have to try that, but if not for side loading, there's an "applications" menu where I can type apps to search for and it finds Stremio when not installed and I can install that way. There's no app store that I can find. Searching for Nuvio finds nothing.

With that in mind I'm not confident I can side load apps easily. And I'm not going to change the os or root or so if there's a way to do it, it's not my TV. It's a 77 inch TV that I don't really want to risk bricking 😅

I'm never going to buy a Samsung TV. Lesson learned.

The reason I got our streaming box was because I was never going to connect the TV to the internet. Ever.

Ok. So I installed Nuvio and, at the moment, it plays streaming files that stremio won't. So it seems like a stremio issue rather than an isp or hardware issue.

Totally agree with you but I'm not in charge here... I wouldn't either. I put it behind some firewall to try to stop tracking and what not though

Stremio has been awful for me recently on android tv. I looked into nuvio as a replacement (can use stremio addons and import your libraries and stuff, has some other nice features like skipping anime intros) as well as downgrading stremio to version 1.8.4 (use apkmirror or something and a universal installer for the app bundle). Both ways seem to be working well.

Nuvio is basically what Stremio should be by now really, I quite rate it but tend to stick to Kodi generally.

Who would have thought that Stremio, after adding paid subscription, would not just not improve but actually get worse. That's shocking.

Thanks for the comment and info.

I've installed Nuvio and, for the moment, it's playing streaming files that stremio will not play.
