Recently won this Robocop issue 1 from 1990 and inside were some classic ads for games of the time.
The fact that one of the most compelling things they could come up with promote Hydlide was having two whole speed settings really says it all. No wonder it cratered so hard in the west.
They should've ported it to the Commodore 64 when it was new.
Hmm I don't remember Sky Shark. Will have to look it up.
Motocross Maniacs still annoys me in a fun way tho.
I was literally addicted to Motocross Maniacs. Games are bad for kids I guess...
Got any tips? With no manuals to go by I’ve just been guessing at everything.
All I remember is that you should use a "boost" before a ramp, and use the left arrow to make loops with the motorbike. Everything happens very fast which is the hard part. But I will check that with an emulator to see if I remember well.
Edit: B button all the time for speed, use a nitro (A button) before every slope not to waste time, and left and right arrows to land properly after a ramp.
Hey I had that comic book! I also had (well have) Double Dragon II for the NES. It is nowhere as good as the first game sadly.
You’re crazy. DD2 slaps. My dream game is that but after you gain specific achievements you could choose different characters.
I thought DD1 and DD3 were both much more fun, but hey you do you. I did like a the very specific jump kick move in DD2 that would send enemies flying, but that alone didn't do it for me.
The flying knee is hilarious.
But dd2 is my go to game when I have just a few min. And one of the handful of games from my youth that I can still play daily.

Its pretty meh to be honest. I bought it for a friend who is a Robocop fan. I noticed the auction had two mins left and he wouldn't have seen it in time so grabbed it and will sell it to him.
I can't imagine the comic cost any more than $10. Maybe I'm wrong, as I'm not an expert in old comics. But I don't see why you'd sell him the comic. Just be like "Dude, look what I found for you!" and he'll be like "OH MY GOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDD!!!!!!"
That's what I love. That's my payment for when I find cool little things my friends would like. Just the surprise and happyness that they got a cool thing. I don't need the $10.
Now if that comic cost you like $500, I'd be like "Heeeeeeeeeey, so I found a thing you'd like. You got $500?"
And if it's too late to contact before the auction ends, welp. Guess they aren't getting that thing. I will however message the seller and see if he's planning on relisting the item if it doesn't sell.
Also, sometimes I just get my friends bad gifts too. Intentionally. I'll be like "Heeeeey, look what I found while I was out!" and it's a garden shovel. One of those little tiny ones you hold in your hand as you kneel and dig up plants. Not a great gift. But I like watching them be confused. Plus it gives me an idea of what peoples fake reactions look like.
Then the next week I give them a gothic garden gnome. Personally, I still think that's an awesome gift. It's a garden gnome. Except it's goth. Who wouldn't love that???
The one thing I remember about it was a guy complaining how hot it was because of global warming. Something like “95 degrees in the friggin shade”
