That's the wrap on XBox, I suspect.

Boss says it's time to enshittify.

That's the irony, innit. They WERE profitable, when they and game studios had the breathing room for creativity. Management by spreadsheet "optimized" that situation to not being profitable.

And this next goal, they'll probably use MORE management by spreadsheet, which will make it worse.

Yes. I heard an interesting leadership quote recently "optimizing can make us brittle".

Just to give you an idea of what she thinks "success" for Xbox looks like, she said around the time of the last major layoff and studio culling that she wants the Xbox platform to hit a daily player count of one billion users. So literally enough unique user accounts to cover one in every eight people on Earth will need to play within the Xbox ecosystem within the same day for her to be satisfied. If you count mobile, I can see hitting north of 200 million, but executive expectations are detached from reality.

Hey show some respect, it's a difficult job, telling someone to make more money.

Ok, great news!

The gaming scene will be better without them.

Less competition really isn't a good thing.

[–] Cypher@aussie.zone 4 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah competition is when Microsoft buys all the studios, fires staff, focuses on games no one wants and then closes the studio for underperforming.

Let GOG grow

Agreed, fuck competition! I’m sure Sony will always put the customer first when they’re the only option.

/s just in case it isn’t clear.

I like good competitors. The bad ones, I'd prefer if they wouldn't exist.

Both Xbox and Sony have behaved very anti-consumer. Why would I support their existance?

[–] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 2 points 3 weeks ago

Consoles themselves are the problem. Give the people the control over the hardware they bought. Yes, that includes Microsoft and Apple.

My focus is pretty much 100% on the indie scene now.

They make much more interesting and creative games.
