This is great news. For people not familiar or comfortable with Linux, this makes it possible for them to switch and use their GOG library. And this also encourages buying games you actually own. So this is a big step in the right direction. I love it.

Following the role we announced earlier this year, we now have the specialist on board and are actively exploring the best way to approach Linux support for GOG GALAXY. This is a significant undertaking, so while we’re not ready to share any specific plans, timelines, or results just yet, it’s very much an area we’re investing time and effort into.

Honestly the convenience steam offers in having all my games in one spot, able to run with no real effort on my part is why I use it. If GOG offers a similar reliability, I'll quickly be using them a lot more
We need a decentralized version of SteamOS's Big Picture Mode/Gamescope. Ironically Microsoft is leading the way on that front with their "Full Screen Experience".
HTPC versions of distros are definitely a thing.
I'm not talking about HTPC, I'm talking about gaming...

I would honestly prefer buying from GOG instead of steam if they had a Linux client.
In theory I could just copy the game files from wi*dows, since they advertize not having a DRM, and play using wine or proton, but steam is just more convinient.
And I have a family on steam, so my friends can play the game as well (this was the deciding point in my last game purchase, otherwise I would use GOG)
Heroic is your GOG client. There will also be a Playnite port with a GOG plugin in the near future.

What is gog galaxy? I've never used gog since I haven't had a PC capable of running games until recently and I have no money lol, so I'm not really familiar with them beyind hearing people talk about them
When you buy from GOG, you get an installer executable, instead of some DRM-infected mess. A lot of people prefer the ease-of-use of Steam's launcher having your library in one place and only a couple of clicks being necessary to install a game, have play data (achievements, play time and such), things like that. Galaxy is GOG's attempt to bridge that gap, but also isn't necessary to install or launch games, unlike most things (not all, but most) on Steam.

GOG doesn't have DRM. You can use a FOSS launcher if you like, this is just another option. I'll keep using Heroic myself, but I'm happy to have their effort on linux in general, even if I won't directly benefit from this application.
Some have. Was a bit of drama on Gog the last few years.
Oh? They removed "requires gog galaxy" from their games? (most didn't have this)
So it's just third party DRM then, my mistake.
