!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

I have done heroin and I always thought that saying was dumb. Later I’d tell the kids I mentored in a drugs and alcohol program that what doesn’t kill you will likely leave you scarred, weaker, and/or in pain for the rest of your life.

I’m a big fan of try anything once though, probably how I got addicted to drugs in the first place. Not like ANYTHING, but like anything fun that isn’t fatal most of the time.

People who unironically use that phrase are simpletons.

You either die from it or find the strength to overcome the addiction? Staying clean from heroin does require a lot of it

I know technically you're right. But if you managed to come out the other end, as in, kick the addiction... Mentally the experience would probably toughen you up.

I know one person that managed to kick heroin about 10 years ago now. They are one of the most head strong people I know now, with an enormous amount of drive to continuously improve their own life (they have since started a family, got a career, and just purchased a home recently).

In their case, I would definitely say 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger' holds true

Dude. Can you fight dragons without heroin? I think not.

I've always gone with "whatever doesn't kill you makes you weaker and easier for the next thing to kill"

Like forget heroin, have they heard of polio?

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

After my double arm amputation I developed incredibly strong telekinetic powers to compensate... ymmv ofc

[–] banause@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

You don't get the saying. If you do heroin it kills you. Like even literally.

If you can overcome the addiction, you will eventually come out stronger.

It's not meant to be applied on an actionable scale, but rather on a strategic one. Kind of like "learn from your failures."

Either it kills them eventually or they find the strength to overcome it. Still fits.

[–] spicehoarder@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

I assume those who do heroin do consider this, so yes.

[–] Ariselas@piefed.ca 3 points 1 day ago

It worked for RFK Jr

[–] Widdershins@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I know it is patently untrue. My uncle died doing steroids.

It's what the powerful say to the weak to convince them their suffering is somehow good for them.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

i thought heroin makes you stronger temporarily. maybe an addict.

[–] cRazi_man@europe.pub 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How about losing an arm..... Or both? Can't see that making anyone stronger.

In one way ofc. But on another way you have to make yourself stronger if you want to keep surviving after that.

I don't necesarilly mean physically.

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 day ago

Heroin kills you, though.

[–] zeppo@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago (2 children)

you can't survive it tho-

[–] Patnou@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

That's a disease not a choice....I welcome the downvotes lmao
