I did 2 customer surveys in the last days and for both they only had a forward button (or even worse: auto forwarding on selecting a choice), but no back button.

Why would you remove that? That's so stupid. Especially with touch screen the answer given might have been by accident. Why would you not give people the chance to give you correct answers??

It was standard to have back buttons last time I did such a survey.

It’s intentional and having worked in the market research tools sector for a couple years, I concluded it’s because they’re idiots.

The rationale is that a later question might prejudice your response to an earlier question, so to eliminate bias they prevent you from changing a previous response. Because apparently that’s so much more common in a self-serve survey than making a fucking mistake.

Later questions might give context for the earlier questions and going back would let people answer the first question accurately instead of skewing towards the answer they want.

100% so many times where I interpreted a question a certain way then a later question made me realize I didn't properly understand some aspect of the earlier question.

Yeah, would explain why one question was about selecting FALSE statements. Seems they finally realized some people don't care about the answers.

But still, auto forwarding AND removing the back button? I'm not so sure that improves the results overall, but what do I know.

Auto forwarding is the dumb part, since you shouldn't have the combination.

I quit doing all surveys. Why work for free? It just felt pointless, and I used to fill out a lot of these since I thought it made my voice heard. They also started to feel more sterile and robotic and less about actually getting actionable feedback. Aggregate data tends to suck, and it’s all they want now.

I refuse to do them. They punish workers if it isn't a 5 star review anyways. Or anything below perfect across the board.

Besides they need to pay me if I am going to do that work for them.

[–] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

Well, this second one was from GOG, where they asked my opinion of them. So I took that chance to tell them again that I do not appreciate them sharing Nazi dog whistles.

Browser has a back button. Why doesn't that work?

[–] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Because they are silly and sometimes/often program it in such a way, that using the back button resets everything and brings you back to the starting page.

Ohh I HATE those!
