What are some class-conscious bangers I can perform on Karaoke night? Most of my favorite songs happen to be kinda downers. Looking to get people hyped, but the best I can come up with is "Which Side Are You On?".

Edit: thanks for all the suggestions! I'm not familiar with a bunch of these, so I'll have fun checking them out.

9 to 5 maybe?

Bella Ciao has gotten very popular, there are even remixes.

Some Spanish ones in case there are Spanish-speaking people:

Fiesta Pagana by Mago de Oz has explicit pro-worker themes, though more anti-Christian-church than anti-Bourgeois

Ska-P has plenty of class conscious songs such as El Gato López, Jaque al Rey...

La Raíz has very explicitly class conscious ones: Jilgueros, Parece Mentira...

As for English songs, you could definitely use some Irish anti-anglo bangers like Go on home.

Kneecap has some bangers too

Sixteen Tons is an older song about a miner who's in heavy debt with the company store.

Come Out Ye Black and Tans for a risky IRA one

Sixteen tons as everyone said already is a great one

Maybe listen to some songs by IDLES or Bob Vylan?

Gil Scott Heron

IDLES has good energy, but I recall being a little turned off by how extremely liberal they get. Can probably pick out a few high points to focus on (though be warned, no karaoke operator is ever going to have their tracks, in my experience)

Total libs indeed

Theyre not Marxists or anything but worthy of a karaoke in the same way that Rage Against The Machine are

I love singing come out ye black and tans! Gil Scott Heron is a fun suggestion but I might come off goofy singing whitey's on the moon (I'm rather unmelinated).

Imagine.

Easy to sing, famous and perfect message.

So perfect that some parts are still not fully understood today because of our 2d reading of reality, but still make sense anyway

this one is fun but it really pushes my range

[–] mrfugu@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago

Not particularly leftist or class conscious but lately my go-to is cabaret (the song from the musical of the same name). Feels like a fitting song to do in queer spaces with the rise of fascism.

[–] Moss@hexbear.net 1 points 3 days ago

Not explicitly socialist but Irish Republican songs tend to go down well. Come out ye black and tans, or ordinary man
