You’re right and I’ve a interesting thought experiment I’ve played out here before…
Try and imagine up some groundbreaking new technology. For example, a device that can carbon copy the entire universe and embed you within it as a temporary sandbox environment. It’s literally the entire universe, copied and playing out as a slightly alternate reality, and you get to go in there to do whatever you want.
We currently live in a world that would put profit before important ethical questions like: do the simulated people have rights? Are their experiences as real to them as ours are to us? How can we ever be sure we are any different from them, more “real,” and how would we like it if a god figure popped into our universe just because it could?
We currently live in a world that would soon market this as a technology that lets you live your wildest adventures with no consequences. People would engage in murder, rape, … over and over again. People would defend it, “they aren’t real…”
I like to think a different kind of world is possible… one where the speed of innovation isn’t at odds with the stability of governance. One where a new technology doesn’t risk an arms race because of fear and game theory mechanics. One where you can still get ahead, but your fellow man also helps you from falling behind. One where technology actually serves the majority, like it was first touted to do.
But then I remember we have like 10 years to figure this shit out before the Earth turns into an oven / freezer for the next century.

I was against Mandani, but the guy has been coming out with good decisions after good decisions for New Yorkers. Yeah, I don't agree with him in a lot, but New York chose him for specific reasons, and the guy is delivering.
It's been wild watching these do-nothing centrist bastards criticize him as a 'performative' politician, when just in this short period he's been in power, he's delivering on promises and finding practical solutions for things previously thought impossible, like efficient snow removal and a targeted tax on the billionaires.
I am very glad to have been wrong about Mamdani. I thought it was more likely he would go mask off and be another Obama.

Disagree with Mandani = Republican? So Disagreeing with Trump makes me a Democrat, right? That's exactly the problem, labeling people that think different in any way shape or form. No wonder the US is falling to pieces.

I was against all the evidently inflamed promises of free buses, city run grocery stores and the elimination of the homeless encampment sweeps. And, by the way, I was right all along, he had to pedal back in all 3 of them, because they were, as with every other politician, right, left or center, just campaign noise to incite the masses. Those are all doable, all 3 of them, but they all require careful planning and a shitload of time and money, to avoid making things worse in the long term. Those, and a few other promises that were impossible to achieve in the way he painted them, were the reasons I didn't like the guy. I still don't like him, for the exact same reasons. Full disclosure, I like Cuomo and Adams even less, those fucking dinosaurs just wanted to suck on more of the people's money than they already had. Now, as much as I dislike that Mandani is more of the same promise-ridden bullshit, I'm still gladly surprised by the things he has actually accomplished, and in record time.
Unfortunately, much like in the last presidential race, where the US had only horrible options to pick from, New York didn't really have any "stellar" choices. Glad to see Mandani was the least bad for NYC.
Another thing I have been right about all along, any disagreement with anyone will create execution squads made out of the fanboys and fangirls of that individual, even when proven accurate. This is why the US is in such a decline now. Get fucking together and understand that both sides want that hate between left and right to spread. We're all nothing but fuckong sheep for both sides.
Don't give a fuck about the right or left, only about what is beneficial to most, but it needs to make sense. The math has to make fucking sense, Mandani's never did.

emphasis mine. does not sound like they "pedaled back". how many years was he in office not completing those promises of his? it seems just barely more than a half. such a bad politician for not cramping years of work into 7 months. a real good politician would deliver careful planning rapidly like that.
Who did you support instead? What won you over for them?

This is NOT a new thing at all. Even 10 years ago apartments had photo shopped clean walls and you go see it to find shitty dirty/damaged walls.
The stupid ai touch up tools do so much more now. My friends bought a house and all my friendgroup has been helping them fix it and paint it. I needed a reference photo when reinstalling vents so I decided to use the listing to figure out which vent went where.
The fuckass realtor who listed the house removed every single vent with the stupid ai tool. Same with the kitchen, there was no sink in the photos. Like what are we doing

Iirc, landlords never had any actual photoshopping skills and mostly just used old pictures or simply didn't take pictures of the stuff they didn't want to show.
