You see a lot of Canadian sports sort of moving away from the USA, as they should, with the establishment of the Canadian Premier League, Canadian Baseball League and the Canadian Elite Basketball League. So why isn't there a similar thing happening with hockey? Hockey is in a bad place in Canada, and I think that the NHL is hurting the sport in the long run. A Canadian Hockey League also wouldn't be so expensive as the NHL, so there can be teams in cities like Halifax and Saskatoon that wouldn't be able to afford an NHL team.

I think that the MLS, NBA and MLB show that North American leagues can coexist with domestic Canadian leagues, so why not for hockey?

For sure! It would be really cool to see hockey culture spread up to Canada, I think they’d really like it trollface

Fr though Canada should be like the premier league for hockey; and you can get relegated to the US. And states without natural winter should be placed in an even lower league. And I’m not just still salty about Vegas and the bs restructures.

Hey, I don't wat to say we're definitely being punished for the hubris of a hockey team in Vegas, but nine out of the ten hottest years on record are since they were created...9 years ago... thonk

What’s next? Las Vegas sno-cross?

I doubt the best players would stay in canada, the nhl would pay so much more.

It could begin as a secondary league. There will be a lot of players who are too old for the CHL but not good enough for the NHL who could play in that league. Most sport leagues have tiers

I just hope both leagues have fun.

Dale and Herbert Carnegie were GOAT tier brothers who played exclusively in the Quebec league due to segregation.

I read Dale's biography called "A Fly in a Pail of Milk", which was the first time I was exposed to the historical burning of a cross on the doorstep of a mixed couple in Oakville, ON in 1930

The sport is effectively segregated, anti HocKKKey aktion

The CHL exists (it comprises of the Western Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey league, and the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League).

Somehow there are still nine US teams in the CHL, including five teams from Washington State. The QMJHL is actually the only league in the CHL that doesn't have American teams.
