I received my Steam Controller a couple weeks ago. I just happened to check the Steam Controller page today and it let me place a second reservation. It looks like the hold on one reservation per account has been lifted.

It's probably going to take some time before you can buy it though. I reserved mine on May 9th, estimation is that I can place my order in December. 😞

[–] OfCourseNot@fedia.io 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Oh mate! I reserved it on May 8th, ordered June 6th, and it arrived on June 15th.

[–] Mechanite@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I reserved mine on tbe 8th, a few hours after reservations opened and my ETA is still for September :(

[–] Aganim@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Damn, that's blazingly fast by comparison! Seeing as I'll not be able to get my hands on one anytime soon, care to share your experience with it?

[–] OfCourseNot@fedia.io 2 points 4 days ago

Quite good, so far. To be honest I haven't got around to game that much so I'm still to try it to its full potential, but I can already say that it's super nice and comfortable. If I had to I'd certainly wait until December to get it and not get carried away and buy another (like I was tempted to do), unless you need a controller sooner or see another one that you like better, idk.

I half wonder if it's regional, I reserved mine when that went up and mine showed up a few weeks back, it shipped out of the states though so idk.

If you have a steamdeck, layout is close but it's way more comfortable to use the trackpad. Rear buttons are a lot nicer than the ones of the deck. It feels closer to the oled deck stick wise, I have a lcd one which I swear has way farther travel. I haven't figured out what to do with the grip inputs yet, not super sure how useful they'll be for me to be honest but cool it's there.

Small things and totally software that I appreciated, noticed that the back buttons are one by default with it, maybe that's across the board now, was a small but appreciated change because I was always having to turn that on. Also like that steam input can ignore trackpad inputs if you're touching the sticks.

Could be, I'm living in Europe.

I don't own a steamdeck, so I can't compare it to thay. But sounds good to me from what you are telling. I'll patiently await my turn to order one.

[–] OfCourseNot@fedia.io 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'm also in Europe, and the other commenter said theirs 'shipped out of the states' so I'm guessing they're not American either. I got it reserved as soon as it went up, so more likely that one day of difference in getting into the queue is the cause for the massive difference.

[–] Aganim@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Yeah, seems more than likely. Unfortunately I wasn't able to reserve on the 8th, so that's my punishment for not being permanently online I guess. But it could be worse, at least I'm still in the second order window (the other is in September), the third is a window in 2027 which has yet to be determined. So good luck to whomever got pushed to that one.

Same πŸ˜‘ stuck using a dumb Microslop keyboard with trackpad to control my media center.

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 13 points 4 days ago

Good, need two so I can race them.

[–] dryfter@ani.social 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The fuck. I cant get a controller but now people can reserve a second?!

Missed out on all the Steam boxes with controllers too. πŸ™ƒ

[–] Vengefu1Tuna@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

Just reserve. If you're already in the queue, we'd be behind you!

[–] boaratio@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You are now allowed to reserve a second of the things we don't have.

[–] mursejoy@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

For real. I haven’t even got the opportunity to buy the first one yet. Been on the waitlist since it was announced.

[–] Elting@piefed.social 6 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

You are allowed to reserve another as soon as your first one ships. The limit is 1 at a time not one permanently.

[–] Vengefu1Tuna@lemmy.zip 6 points 4 days ago

I didn't think it was permanently. Valve originally said, "for now, customers who have already purchased a Steam Controller are not yet eligible to reserve another Steam Controller" (source). We didn't receive an update on when they would allow users to jump back in the queue for another one, but now we can!

[–] tuxiqae@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Mr. President, the second Steam Controller just hit the store

I noticed that. Estimated ship time is 2027 though. But still pretty awesome

[–] MystValkyrie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Is that only if you've already received one, or can you reserve two controllers at the same time? When I go into Steam, it only gives an option to cancel my existing reservation.

[–] Vengefu1Tuna@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 days ago

I'm referring to users who have received one already. As far as I'm aware, there's still not a way to reserve multiple controllers at the same time.

Do normal PS5 controllers work on the Steam Machine?

EDIT: misspelled β€œPS5”, so had to correct it.

[–] charles@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I don't have a PS5 controller but so far I've tested both the Steam Controller and an Xbox controller so far. Funnily enough, the Steam Controller was giving me issues during setup and I had to use my Xbox controller instead until I managed to connect my Steam Machine to WiFi and updated everything.

I can test out a PS4 controller tonight if you'd like (I don't own a PS5 controller, the PS4 is the only PlayStation I've owned).

Yeah, if you want, would be cool to see if it works. Though, if the Xbox controller works then the PS4 should work too.

I’m not planning to purchase the Steam Machine just yet though, going to wait a few months to see how things go

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 days ago (3 children)

I'm assuming you mean PS5 controllers, and yes they should work fine. I believe you can also use the controller's gyro and touchpad area.

One weird issue is that while the controllers work normally wirelessly, I think it has to be plugged in to use some features like the adaptive triggers, for games that specifically support it.

[–] derin@lemmy.beru.co 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

This is because certain features (like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers) work by exposing them as an audio device to the host system, which isn't functional over Bluetooth (the reason I heard is that Bluetooth just doesn't have the latency for that, if there are third party projects that have found a way around that then great!).

All normal controller features work fine, you just can't use some of the PS5 exclusive stuff. I don't know of any games, including PS5 games ported to PC, that absolutely require the wired gestures.

Note this applies to all PCs, regardless of OS.

Oops, yeah. I meant the PS5 controller

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago

I can't seem to find it but I swear I saw a project to enable this while doomscrolling

[–] MantisToboggon@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

That sounds like fun sometime next year.
