Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Let’s build some floating datacenters that use ocean water for cooling.

We are so fucked. Corporations pouring money into AI data centres just to keep the house of cards going, while on a policy level North America is actively encouraging it and the average person still isn't convinced it's even something to worry about.

Down voted because Fahrenheit, Celsius or kelvin please

F Is easy. 32F is freezing, 0 is the freezing point of a saturated solution of calcium chloride and sodium chloride brine, and 100F was meant to be average human body temperature but Fahrenheit was retarded and he used a horse instead, so now F is perfect for horses.

Mr. Hands would be thrilled.

If I have to use Farenheit, so should you.

Don't worry, soon people will all switch (buy buy buy!) to electric cars and the problem will be fixed forever. Unless it's not economically advantageous to do so. In that case we will keep burning fossil fuel since its cheaper than EVs that would be marginally better. Anyway I'm sure we, or AI, will find solutions soon.

Don't point out my giant SUV, I recycle and have reusable bags! It's not my fault.
