I like gta series, was a huge fan since the very first one. Online is a cancer, but everything else I rather enjoyed.
However I suspect it will be very hefty, and I am absolutely sure my old computer wouldn't be sufficient to run it even on low. And since ram isn't made for people to buy anymore, I will never be able to afford an upgrade.
Therefore my answer is "I'll never buy it even though I'm interested"

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 3 points 14 hours ago

I personally won't because GTA isn't my thing anymore, but if my brother gets the money by launch, he definitely wants the ultimate edition for PS5.

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 6 points 22 hours ago

Still haven’t played gta5 story or rdr2

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

R* are union busting assholes. I'm not giving them a single øre.

[–] vrihaspati110@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 day ago

Will pirate in 5 years with dlc and if like the buy 70% off.

I mean, it's not likely to run on the steam deck and that's my only gaming device, so. . .

[–] forestbeasts@pawb.social 4 points 1 day ago

Nah.

We've got GTA 5, but don't really enjoy it. (The excessive open-world free-roam, great! The "doing nasty shit" part, not so much.) And THEN there's the whole "they're trying to kill discs" thing and just, nah.

I really enjoyed GTA 5. I bought it twice in two different systems. I’ll eventually play 6, but it’s gotta be for a sale. Fuck the $80 price tag, and fuck Rockstar union busting and I hope they unionize hard.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

I probably will, but i wont be happy about it. I've got a boy who'll be 15 by then attending a public school.

If it turns out basically everyone has a copy I'll need to get him one, you know how it is, and with the license-share on our xboxs itll mean I'll get a copy too. Hopefully the youth of today are actually a lot more politically-minded than i imagine, or the cost of living crisis will mean nearly no parents buy it for them, but I bet I'm going to be buying it.

[–] mecen@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Pretty bad results for Rockstar

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lol yeah. I expected less interest from this community, but even then I'm surprised.

[–] mecen@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Good option would be wait for it to be free on epic or something

[–] Kind_to_Everyone@slrpnk.net 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Why is "buy eventually" not an option? I'm not arranging my life around the PC launch, but I don't need a sale either.

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago

Agreed. I realized later after reading the comments, that important options such as "maybe later" or something like that is missing.

[–] als@lemmy.blahaj.zone 33 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Can't vote because I use a VPN but no, I try to avoid paying union busters

When it's less than 50€ and available as disc...

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

For which you will need internet to activate/play the disc.
So at this point it became a useless piece of plastic anyway.
If it was like on GoG it would at least make sense.

[–] lemmydividebyzero@reddthat.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In GTA 5, that depends in the hardware. For Playstation and XBox, the disc was enough. No code activation required.

Do they change that, too?

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 15 hours ago

Dunno. Not a console player.

But thwy are supposedly coming at a later date: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/comment/26861883

[–] Joelk111@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The disk isn't completely useless. It's a physical license key that is transferable and resellable. I was fully planning to purchase a used console to play GTA 6 with a physical disk, then sell both when it came out on PC. That's still my best plan I guess.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Fair. But you know what? They are rumored to come at a later date.
Take2 felt the gamers wrath and now they'll prey on the FOMO-players that will go out of their way to buy the game day one.
And the patient gamers can buy the CD.

https://www.vice.com/en/article/rockstar-games-responds-to-gta-6-physical-disc-backlash/

BUT: Take it with a rock of salt. We'll see.

[–] Joelk111@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, when I said that's still my best plan, that's what I was referring to. Currently in the wait and see phase. I really would like to play on launch, but I might be able to wait a month...

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 14 hours ago

Same boat.
Im ready or the big version (on pc) but I'll wait to see what is included in standard and if it justifies the additional €€€

[–] arcine@jlai.lu 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Voted "Not Interested" while guessing it was the least common option, turns out it's close to 60% ! I guess this audience is a little biased towards playing indies, maybe that's why.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

I tried 4 and 5 for a few hours each and the mechanics are all very mid. I have no idea how this series became the juggernaut it did. To me it's as surprising as some random mobile game blowing up, like Angry Birds or Flappy Bird

[–] Klear@piefed.world 25 points 2 days ago (4 children)

None of the choices apply to me. I'm pretty excited to play it. Not gonna pay for it though.

I can't give my money to a union busting company. I'll play it though. Probably "borrowed" from "a friend"

[–] gilokee@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

lots of friends on the internet lending out their stuff! :D

No. Rockstar is dead to me.

[–] Console_Modder@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I don't think I'm going to get GTA 6 at all. I have a grudge against Take2 since they had Gearbox update all the old Borderlands games right before Borderlands 4 came out to include an anticheat software and the EULA now states that any info the anticheat scrapes can be sold to their marketing partners. So they turned all of those games into spyware. Rockstar and Take2 both stated that the already over-monitized GTA Online is actually under-monitized, so I fully expect the GTA 6 online to be more of a fucking nightmare than EA's Battlefront 2 on release. And I also hate how as soon as Rockstar saw how profitable GTAO was, they cancelled the single player DLC and shoehorned all that shit into GTAO.

I'm tired, boss. It'll be a cold day in hell before I spend money on a triple-A game again

I'm not at all surprised to see the "not interested" and "wait for a sale" options being massively ahead on Lemmy. Though it'd be interesting to see how different the "not interested" crowd would be if the option were split into "not interested at all" and "interested but wont buy for political/moral reasons".

The comments here imply most would vote for the second option, but I'm in the first camp myself. I've never been interested in any of the GTA games.

[–] Ephera@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I also imagine there's lots of folks who have their handful of games in rotation that wouldn't care to buy a new game anyways. And then also lots of folks, who just don't have the hardware for it...

[–] regdog@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

lol, I know what people vote for in these kind of poll VS what they actually do on launch day.

I am not convinced.

[–] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

There are only 609 total votes here, pulled from a fairly small subset of the gaming population. I would not doubt that this poll is very accurate... for the people who took the poll.

I'd have been a day one customer if they'd bothered making a PC version and hadn't arbitrarily blocked Linux users from GTA Online a couple of years ago. Now they can get fucked.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I chose "wait until sale" because there will apparently be no actual physical release, but I'd consider getting the $80 version at some point if there was one. I was fully prepared to just buy it on release, but $80 digital-only left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't appreciate Rockstar's blatant greed and it immediately dropped it from "must-buy" to "buy later at some point, maybe."

Now, if they made a Bully 2? I'd pay $100 for that.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (8 children)

No, but also I was never going to buy GTA6.

I loved GTA3, Vice City & San Andreas. Played for hundreds of hours. I played GTA4 for a few hours but it never really clicked the same. I also played Saints Row 2 and Saints Row 3, which I really enjoyed and scratched that same itch (those games eventually went a little over the top, but I still had fun.)

When GTA5 came out all I ever heard about it was it being "online" which turned me off of the series completely. I think I later understood that there is a single player component and an online component, but by then I didn't really care.

If anything I'm likely to try revisiting GTA4 this year. Maybe.

I will consider the Ultimate Edition on PC once I know what it entails.
If it's like the current details say: Sale
If it's semi logical: Buy at a reduced price on somwthing like GreenManGaming or somewhere.

[–] ms_lane@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Probably, but my platform is PC and I'm not expecting it for years.

I fully expect Rockstar to release it for the PS6 first and then we can start an 18 month timer for the PC release.

[–] BaraCoded@literature.cafe 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Nah. Never been interested in the IP, and I've come to hate open-world games. They're always the same sh*t with the same repetitive tasks. How can a game be a game when most of its gameplay is litteraly a list of chores in-between driving sequences longer than a loading screen?

I am one of the few in this world that GTA just didn't appeal to, and I guess I'm lucky in that regard, seeing as how it takes so long to develop a new one.

[–] DarkMetatron@feddit.org 3 points 2 days ago (4 children)

I tried GTA5 when EpicGames had it as a freebe and put it away after about an hour because the characters were so awefull and stupid, I could not stand it at all. That and driving the cars felt bad, there was nothing fun in the game for me. GTA just stopped being a game for me when it went 3D

No, but I get the sense this is a skewed audience. I would not be surprised at all if this is one of very few corners of the internet not 98% invested in it.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

Currently at ~7% would buy one version or another on day one, about 33% would wait for a sale, ~60% dgaf

[–] AlphaOmega@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

For $20, I'm in ..
