Oh I am so here for mexican duct tape batman. More, please. 🍿

[–] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I’d support a GoFundMe for serious Batmen to fight crime. These should be executives though, not petty thieves.

[–] diabetic_porcupine@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The Batmen of course need to be executives other wise it won’t be historically accurate

[–] wolframhydroxide@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

historically accurate

Listen, friend, this is going to be hard for you, but either:

A) You have a serious misunderstanding of the definition of "history", or

B) I am the bearer of bad news: Batman isn't a real historical figure

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago

Viva il batman del cinta!

Cops drag their asses in going after motorcycle thieves. -> Vigilante(s) go after motorcycle thieves, most likely out of frustration with police. -> Police organize manhunt for Vigilante(s).

The cops really asked "why have one problem when you could have two problem?"

[–] Janx@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Cops drag their asses in going after private property thieves.

Fixed that for you!

EDIT: Not sure why I'm being downvoted. They absolutely don't care about stuff stolen from you or me...

[–] monsieur_hackerman@programming.dev 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Personal property != private property

[–] Janx@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Okay... I changed it. Not sure how that changes the point that they don't care about us, lol.

Oh yeah they absolutely don't care about us. They care very deeply about their masters private property, not their subjects' personal property. Its a distinction they make and it helps to be aware of that

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Well, they don't get paid to solve problem. They get paid according to the amount of crime there is. Fixing that just makes fewer jobs for cops. They can't be having that!

[–] NoTagBacks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago

What? They don't get paid according to the amount of crime, they get a salary from whichever government budget is set for their municipality. Mexican police tend to be understaffed and underworked, so it's no surprise things get by them all the time. The government reaction also appears to stem more from the premise of the state asserting it's monopoly on violence rather than whether or not they actually want to solve any problems. I think their silence on what caused the vigilantes to do what they do speaks volumes to how much they care about the actual crime and broken system that facilitates it, though.

God, I love vigilante stories.

[–] turtlesareneat@piefed.ca 6 points 1 month ago

We had a superhero in my town who was, I'm pretty sure, also the serial killer he was hunting. The serial killer hunting in my neighborhood. Months worth of entertainment.

Be careful with the crackpots and wingnuts, some of them are crazy.

[–] stermy4u@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

One of the best

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl -1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Like the KKK?

Vigilantes are usually racists just murdering marginalized folks, historically

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Uh, yeah dude. Totally. When I say I love vigilante stories the KKK is exactly what I'm talking about.

Man, I have seen you a lot recently. You're obnoxious! If anyone says anything, you come flying in purposefully misconstruing what they said to act like they said they support something evil. Either you're a troll, or you're as good as one. If you don't want to become known as a troll, I suggest you chill the fuck out. No one meant like the KKK, and you know that.

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Not a troll. I recommend reading Emma Goldman. Vigilantes have been bad news forever.

It's only recently society idealized them, forgetting their true nature.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They've often been bad, but they haven't exclusively been bad.

Anyway, what do you do when the justice system fails to protect the people, and only protects the wealthy and oppresses the people?

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Isn't revolution a form of vigilantism?

To use your own argument, wasn't the KKK trying to cause a revolution?

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

No, revolution is not a form of vigilantism.

Revolution is when you replace the government.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

That doesn't make it not vigilantism. Vigilantism is when you use force to enforce your values without the backing of the law. That's what a revolution is too.

[–] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

How would this happen? It'd take a while to duct tape someone to a poll and if they move at all it would fuck it up, so you'd need them to be very compliant. Was he holding them up at gun point?

Also why wouldn't the people tied up explain what happened?

none of those found tied up have provided information about who carried out the attacks.

This seems more like a cartel selectively tying up thieves for not giving them a cut and threatening them to not say anything.

[–] metermatic26@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

Yes, but…is he wearing hockey pants?

[–] stermy4u@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Instead of organizing a manhunt for the vigilante's arrest, I will rather say they should give Bro title for CID boss, he's doing a better policing than the so called police

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 6 points 1 month ago

This is what happens when you have lazy fat doughnut eaters not doing their job.

I won't say that everyone should be a vigilante, but those whose moral compass is working properly should definitely do it.

I definitely couldn't do it, i could probably hold back against petty theft and such but against rapists, murders and such i don't think i would allow them to get a chance for "redemption", seen it too often where they get released on "good behaviour" and are back within a week because they went back to the same old familiar life.

[–] MrRandom@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 month ago

The ongoing manhunt has also fueled broader criticism of local policing

It's very much the nature with politics to fight symptoms instead of finding the cause.

[–] generic_computers@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Isn't this more Spider-Man, but with duct tape instead of webs?

[–] MrRandom@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

I dunno, Batman and spidey both have habit of tying them up way higher on lampposts

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago

Oooh! Bat man! A guy with a bat! Yeah that makes sense. "Un bato en bata con un bate"

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

Toronto had a massive bike theft problem in the 90s the police did nothing about.

They found a guy duct taped to a tree in High Park with a bicycle frame pump up his ass. There was no outrage.

[–] sns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

"Public trust in police" - that's fucking hilarious.
